Jesus has charged His church to "go and make disciples of all nations" through the means of "baptizing" and also "teaching." (Matt. 28:19-20) Within our Western context we tend to associate teaching as "going" to a school, college, seminary, etc... Students either travel to a classroom or log on to a website in order to learn. Yet in certain parts of the world, potential students have neither a classroom to travel to, nor the internet access necessary to "go" to school. And even if they did, their poverty would prevent them from pursuing a degree from the very start. Many Christians around the world are distanced from education geographically, technologically, and financially.
But instead of viewing these situations as hopeless, with education beyond their reach, what if the classroom went to them? What if seminary professors traveled to remote villages around the world to train Christian pastors and leaders right where they live, work, and minister? And instead of writing off the idea of earning a diploma due to the lack of finances, what if those expenses were fully funded through the generosity of other Christians? Through a partnership with World Witnesses' SEED Ministry, Erskine Seminary is proud to offer the Global Diploma in Theology & Christian Leadership. Our professors are taking seminary training directly to the nations as our unique way of fulfilling the Great Commission.
The following video series featuring Martha Margaret Cotten, Director of Global Theological Education, will emphasize the importance of foreign missions in general, the particular needs Erskine and World Witness are seeking to meet, and practical steps churches can take to get involved.
