Easily the most underrated movie of all time. William Hurt gives a masterclass in acting; Micky Rourke is mesmerizing & Turner is sexy & perfect, but poison. This movie reminds its audience of the overwhelming grip & loneliness that ultimately captures & detains those who pursue all of the momentary delights of the flesh; & from within the heat, they lose all sense of morality. A slow gradual walk with the two main characters, Matty & Ned, takes you with them to the edge of the precipice, & we see how each in their own way has sacrificed their soul. In the end, from entirely different places, one lounging on a Caribbean beach, while the other stares at the ceiling from a prison cube, they look into the void, quietly reflecting on the dark forboding space that goes straight to the flames of hell. Heat, fires, sweat, explosions are all part of the story, timed to capture the destruction that is inevitably wraught by the demands of the fleah. Movie making doesn't get any better than BODY HEAT

I try to watch "Body Heat" every summer and here in the South where we live, the sultry moonlit nights are ideal for watching this timeless noir film. A huge part of the sensual danger and intrigue of the film is Mr. Barry's smooth-as-silk haunting, mysterious and tragic film score. Performances by Turner, Hurt, and Danson are perfect as well as every one else's. God, what a great film. God, what great music.

One of the greatest films of all time and with, IMO, the greatest film music of all time. The only competitors to this music coming from John Barry's other masterpieces. Body Heat's script, cast, acting and director are all perfect. I have lost count of how many times I have seen it, you feel the heat of the film coming off the screen, you believe the young Kathleen Turner could drive almost any man to this crazy plan and Ned is doomed from the moment he meets her. Ned's friends are so well cast and acted they really do feel like might well be his friends in real life. William Hurt and Kathleen Turner have never come close to matching this beautiful work of art. Even Mickey Rourke's small performance is brilliant and those words are seldom combined in one sentence. Anyone who hasn't seen Body Heat should because I guarantee you''ll not be disappointed and you will love the twists in the story.

As a practicing attorney of over 30 years, I make a point of watching "Body Heat" every 6 months or so. I've known a lot of lawyers who started out wanting to be Atticus Finch, but ended up emulating Ned Racine. Should be required during Law School, and not because of the Rule against Perpetuity! Incredible movie, and eternally haunting themes.

Those of us who watched BODY HEAT knew it had to end this way, with vamp Matty going her carefree way. There is so much emotion in this ending piece ... it's the movement we heard since the very beginning, and throughout the film ... but it is as if in this grand final movement, MR. BARRY is telling us " I warned you ... " BRILLIANT ... !

this theme music created the movies atmosphere. This music complimented the great acting and the great directing. Ned was such a layer back guy just like this jazzy music. I may love this even more than the opening theme version...this is much more lush, sinister and alluring, giving you time to allow the absolute shock and disbelief of that classic ending to sink in. The ending that was foreshadowed by the opening theme all along, if you were paying close attention. Sometimes, the bad and the beautiful DO get away with it. (NOT a spoiler for the million folks who have already seen it.)

So well said. I prefer this to the opening for just the reason you said (better than I could have said it). What's so wonderful about John Barry's film music is that while it enhances the films perfectly, it's also great stand-alone music. It's fun to remember the films when listening to his scores but you don't have to. You can just listen to them for their incredible beauty.

Body Heat in my opinion is one of John Barry's finest works. As this is being played at the end of the movie and you see "Matty" relaxing on the beach, you wonder what she is thinking. Is she truly happy now that she has attained her life's ambition, or was it all the scheming and everything she did to get to that point that she got the most fullfillment from and now that she has it all, it is a bit of a disappointment...makes you wonder. thanks so much for posting this wonderful piece...Norm

She's just the same she always was, right where she started. On her own, but still using everybody to get to that point, of just being alone by herself. The same she did to her husband, to the main character, and now to somebody else unsuspecting. Still needing companionship, but unable to go about it the natural way. As she sits on the beach, the cycle starts over again and repeats itself, a new prey will soon be found

Revisiting ... I just watched this outstanding film for maybe the 6-7th time, and I still say it's one of the great MOOD movies I've ever enjoyed .... the acting is effective, and the story is plausible ... mostly due to "the heat". Kathleen was actually sipping a Mai Tai on "Lumaha'i Beach" on the island of Kauai in Hawaii... That was Not a Volcano in the background but "Mountain Peaks" that were also depicted in South Pacific and called "Bali Hai" where they showed the peaks with a foggy haze in the scene to make it mysterious looking and this shot at the end in Body Heat showed them clear...that was the same beach in the movie when they sang, Washed That Man Right Out Of Her Hair and many other tunes from that musical.

With all due respect, I think this score is much better than Goldsmith's score for Chinatown. It's sexier and more haunting. But I think Goldsmith's score for Basic Instinct is as good as this. It shimmers, it's seductive and chilling and ultimately elusive, just like Catherine.
