Jessica Lange played her so beautifully in the film. Thank god for John Barry to write an equally beautiful score! I don’t believe anyone else could do what he did in this film. Perfectly framing all the subtle moods in the movie. Knowing what Frances went through in her life. He did it with such feeling it makes my heart wrench so, it makes me cry! If I need a good cry, Frances is my go to movie!! John Barry, I’ll always think of you when I hear your music. You have truly left us a beautiful remembrance in music. I’ll cherish it forever! ❤️

@Michael Jones......I totally agree with your excellent comment. The ending scene from 'Frances' is arguably one of the most moving and poignant ever captured on film. [on a par with Giuseppe Tornature's 'Nuovo Cinema Paradiso', Roman Polanski's 'Chinatown', Orson Welles' 'Touch of Evil', and Sergio Leone's 'Once Upon a Time in America'?] Absolutely stunning performances by Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard [who actually met and fell in love whilst making 'Frances' and later married]. A heart-rending and deeply touching script by writer Eric Bergren all set to Barry's hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Barry is one of my all-time favourite composers and this is possibly one of the finest pieces of music he ever composed? [incidentally the full 7 min 14 second version is also available here in YT]. Sadly, the film itself wasn't that accurate and 'Harry York' never existed in reality. [although a very dubious character called Stewart Jacobson claimed to be him]. However, there is no conclusive evidence to support this and the filmmakers themselves admitted that 'Harry York' was indeed completely fictional and was only incorporated into the film for 'dramatic purposes'.

Haunting. Still makes me cry. The movie was so sad that I cried for a whole month when I saw it in the early eighties. Jessica and Sam were brilliant. Frances would have been proud of all of it.

I can honestly say whenever I want to think of my mother, this track takes me there, she never got to live her life to the fullest & I miss her terribly, everyday. This piece brings me to tears but in a happy sense & has has been said many times, John Barry was a pure genius in his craft, he can reach in and grab your heart within a few bars of listening, I challenge anyone not to be truly moved by his music,put the headphones on & listen to Chaplin, Somewhere in Time etc.. A RARE PERFECTION !!

A very beautiful Track for a very good film. Frances was one of the best and moving films of the 80s. An acurate description of the Star System in the Golden Age of Hollywood.
@danafreddy5 жыл бұрын
but lots of this film was fictional based on a book dreamed up by a seattle reporter. her lesbianism was completely avoided and the sam shepherd character, harry, was devised to connect parts of her plotline. regardless it is a very moving film with haunting residue and the music is killer. and kim stanley no kim hunter no stanley, stanley played lillian is superb as the hideous stage mother ("little sister. you had better wise up") i moved to seattle after the military and sought out all her places, including the odd pink house in west seattle.
