Everyone (understandably) focuses on John's right hand technique, but his left hand is quite nuts as well. I love this song too. If these first two songs are representative of the new album, it's going to be at least as good as The Amanuensis, imo.

Daniel Marino-Austin the song begins in Eb Phrygian (Ab minor) and at the end of the verse changes to Bb Phrygian (Eb minor) for the build up to the chorus. The song then comes back to Eb Phrygian through the intro riff, and this continues throughout the song

This song is so understated. The concepts are fairly simple when they are taken one by one, but each part flows so effortlessly into the next part and then adds a new element without becoming too busy. Oh and the muting and slides are insanely clean. 🤘🏼

Why John is different to EVERY other guitarist using drop tuning: hes not letting the open Bb string dictate the key of the song. The root note of the song is on the 5th of the low B and hes using the lower notes melodically, instead of every song being in the same key just because of his tuning. Genius
