If you noticed, this guy started first to pull almost every match without "Ready GO!"...In that case, his opponents are in huge disadventage because you can't know when will he start to pull you. So time of the reaction and position where you "caught" him are really important. Even if someone is weaker than you, you will have problems to "catch" him if he starts to pull first and go all in like this guy does.

I have very little knowledge of arm wrestling so could someone explain to me if John is actually losing, the few times hes pinned.. or is he just letting the opponent win to help them practice?

No, no judges or refs here. Just practice. The object is not necessarily to win - it's to learn. And the thumb pressure / hand control is perfectly legal as long as no one has the advantage at the start. It's all part of the game. If you want someone to stop it, grow your hand and wrist stronger =)

I used to say things like that "hey skinny better eat something" etc in highschool. There's a big difference between size and strength Nirson. I'm 6' 190 and I beat big guys allll the time. This is arm wrestling. There's weight classes. Maybe he's comfortable in his weight class. I have a video of my 1st competition on my page. I was the smallest in my division. The guys were laughing saying they were going to toy with me, something like you probably would have done. Guess who placed 1st? Me.
