Another loss so young. His big hit was "You're Sixteen". I'm sure everyone was trying to emulate Elvis in the 50's and 60's. Great flash from the past. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Paul Burlison, Burnette's lead guitarist, is also credited with the first notable song with fuzz guitar. He didn't do it with a pedal (which weren't made until '62 or '63). He poked pencils into his speaker. Other guitarists quickly emulated him, most successfully Link Wray with "Rumble."

Mmm... not quite. The guitarist on the recording was session player Grady Martin. Paul Burlison's playing style was completely different, and he always played Fender Telecasters (known for a twangy sound, but not the fat fuzz tone Grady got with his custom Paul Bigsby guitar and Magnetone amp). Another guitarist, Link Wray did poke holes in his amp speaker. He is credited for being an early user of power chords and distortion. "Rumble" from 1958 was a game changer for rockers.

Now you're in my genre, this is a rockabilly classic, he has a few great tracks including Rockabilly Boogie. Although it is claimed Elvis started the whole Rockabilly thing it is debatable because there are recordings going right back to the 40's that although aren't exactly the same you can hear the early vibes and formations of what became rock n roll in there but it became mainstream when Elvis released Mystery Train on July 11, 1955 (Another Train track). You mentioned Gene Vincent, please consider reacting to Blue Jean Bop, the guitar work in that is fantastic :)

Recorded in July 2, 1956 (as "Hound Dog" by Elvis) feel the difference. But Elvis Presley was the first, his first rockabilly record was released in July 1954 (Johnny Burnette's first song was released in 1955, but his career really began in 1956) However, the first pop rock 'n' roller was Bill Haley in 1953 (his rock'n'roll hit worthy places in the charts and was even broadcast on national TV)

A late 1966 lineup of The Yardbirds that included both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitar did a version of this classic song (retitled "Stroll On") and it was included in Antonioni's great film from 1967, "Blow Up."

I was surprised to see Betty Page, model/pinup girl from back in the day, making an appearance. I was even more surprised to see a Geritol sign hanging up behind the band. Geritol is a supplement that is supposed to energize and was touted to help old people with iron-poor blood. Seems the band would energize better that the supplement. The band was great. Thanks for the reaction!

Johnny Burnette and his brother Dorsey established a rockabilly dynasty. Both of their sons carried on the tradition. Both Rocky Burnette (Johnny's son) and Billy Burnette (Dorsey's son) are still playing to date and they both tell a story that their fathers told them. Johnny and Dorsey toured together and often dedicated songs to their sons. They would say, "That song was dedicated to my son Rocky" or "This song is dedicated to my son Billy" and after a while their fans would say, "Play some of that Rocky and Billy music" and eventually they started calling their music Rockabilly. I don't know if it's true, but that was how the story went.

Greetings, brother Harri! Oh, heck, yeah! Few early bands could rock like The Rock 'n' Roll Trio. Brothers Johnny and Dorsey Burnette and lead guitarist Paul Burlison. Even after being renamed The Johnny Burnette Trio, they still had a lot of difficulty cracking the charts. Eventually, they called it quits and both of the Burnette's made moderate careers as solo artists. Still, their catalogue of songs is well worth exploring for the intense drive and energy. Yes, they found inspiration in Elvis, but they turned it up a few notches and were one of the wilder bands of the time. However, they were already playing music much the same as this before Elvis' emergence into the charts. Elvis didn't create Rock 'n' Roll. He just popularised it at a time when white acts didn't do this kind of music. Other great tracks from The Rock 'n' Roll Trio include, Honey Hush, Lonesome Train, Oh Baby Babe, Tear It Up and Rockabilly Boogie. The Yardbirds released a great cover of this song on their 1965 album Having A Rave Up with Jeff Beck on lead guitar. The Beatles were also big fans of the Trio and would often include a couple of their songs in their early live shows.

This man was consumed in the rockabilly fire that Elvis sparked. I’m pretty sure Elvis was first because nobody was making this kind of music, R&B mixed with country thus creating rockabilly. Elvis’ first hit was in 1954. This guy was possibly the best rockabilly band ever.

Personally, the first to record what we now call rockabilly is Hank Williams, just look at his songs and how many are now regarded as classics. Move it on over is classic rockabilly. Yes, there was no wiggling, but the music is not just a wiggle

I wonder if there is a name for the phenomenon that is, each musical era, or genre split, there seems to be a collection of artists who sound and act very similar, it seems to be after one dominant artist splinters off from some mainstream sound, and then when they start drawing attention, you get a bunch of others doing similar stuff, until there is another fracture or splintering affect, or something just comes out of left field and it starts all over again. There has to be a name for that situation as it has been happening as long as I can remember. I don’t know if its called bandwagon or copycat, or what, but its something like that. Sometimes the copycat does it better than the original, but I often have a hard time listening to the copycat after hearing the original first. Is this the original rock power trio? Or, the original photo punk group?
