It is a 12 string guitar however he removes both courses of the G string leaving him with 10 strings and no open 3rd between G and B.

siunds kinda like a wah/flange idk, acoustics normally dont sound that good on distortion, but this definitely works for him if thats what he's doing

sound to me he has a progressive distorsion pedal. you press harder, you get more distorsion. kindof like wahwah pedals ;)
