the way i see it, is that john butler is one of the few people with enough talent to draw from all of his inspirations without sounding like any particular one in particular, or sounding like hes ripping them off, hes a very inventive and talented individual

Cool Song, great guitar playingSo have you been to the valley lately? Have you noticed that the shepherd is gone? So walk gently lady As you walk along Cos I once fought for his forces But that cross bears nothing now I've seen all but your Crusades succeed And it's growing sour Gonna be a long time waitin Things are always looking little better when you're on the back Side of them And then you know all that you think you might need to know But even then, my little wing, you'll have to grow You'll have to grow So have you been to your God lately? No Jesus Christ, he ain't nowhere to be seen He is not there matey He has never been So have you been to your church lately No cannot find the key to your home There is no support for you now my friend They got problems of their own

@TheCanadianPancake Does music really need to be defined with a genre? Music is just that. Music. It's a universal language, it doesn't need any subdivisions. Just tell em it's pure greatness then whip this video out. They won't question it ;)

@cheesynounou I am not the best at analyzing lyrics, but the way I see it, it almost seems like he was upset at the church for something in this song. I'm pretty sure John is a believer, so with lyrics like "I once for his forces/but the cross bears nothing now/I've seen all but your crusades succeed and it's growing sour" and the lyric that sounds like the church is too vested in their own problems to help someone else out, just seems like the church let him down in some way.
