Thank you so much for this documentary. I really loved it! John Candy is one of my absolute favourite actors. I agree with every word about him in this video. The great thing about John was that he always brought a piece of himself into every character. It was as if he was playing the different persons, should he've become them in real life. He was so special and as you said, he is sorely missed.

I've been thinking of doing something like this myself on and must say LOVED this. I have a friend who lives out where they filmed most of Stripes. The older folks are more than happy to tell you of the times they'd make and set out a big buffet for everyone during filming. Because how many times are you going meet big actors in middle of nowhere Kentucky? But every one of them will say their favorite person was John Candy. He was affable, easy to along with, kids loved him, and "ate about as much as a starving hog" (their words). From what we've been told, he was best. And I'm inclined to believe it

While others around the world, especially in the US, indeed mourned John Candy's death, none of those places will know just how sad Canada was. It was a national grieving that hadn't been seen before and wasn't seen again until the death of Gord Downie.

I had a friend who was the funniest most awesome friend I've ever had. He was bigger fellow and because of our mutual love of John Candy my kids called him uncle buck. John Candy was one of those actors that defined our child hood. He died in 2009 from a massive heart attack and now in my mind when I think of Candy, I can't help but think of my friend. Even his initials were JC hahaha.

The ending brought a few tears to my eyes. I was born in the early 80's, so my entire childhood was filled with this man, and I loved his movies. I was 11 years old when he passed away, and I remember crying for a complete stranger, who was not a stranger, for the first time in my life. I will never not watch a John Candy movie if it is on, and I will go out of my way to see it through.

John was incredible. He was SO ahead of his time. He was a true comedian. He was so humble and passionate about films along with his work. You just loved him for everything he did. He was brilliant. My mother remembers the day he passed away. It broke her heart. She adored him in Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Whenever they were on, we would both watch them.

Uncle Buck is still one of my favorite all time films. Every single moment from that film is immensely memorable and timeless. Along with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, any film with Candy in it was, and still is, a gem. Even if it was just a cameo, he lit up the screen with his presence.

Since you mentioned cameos, I always thought his role as Dean Andrews in _JFK_ was well underappreciated. Just another example of the range he had as an actor. ***** *EDIT:* ***** Literally two seconds after I wrote this, they mentioned it in the video. 😆

I met John Candy on my first job out of college. It was on a film called, "It Came from Hollywood," a clip show movie for Paramount about the worst moments in Sci-fi history with some interstitial sketch comedy in which he was one of the stars. I sat across from him at lunch and he was truly a great guy and very generous with his time, especially to a gopher like me.

Uncle Buck will ALWAYS be my favorite John Candy movie. Because its got comedy, but he shows his drama acting chops in it too. Example: When he rips into the Principle. Yeah the ending is funny with the quarter bit, but before that man it comes out of nowhere. First time I saw that as a 11 year old (thanks Mom & Dad), I was almost nervous, because until that point, never got that mad, except for the clown part but you get my point.

... And do you remember the cute little boy sitting in the hallway outside the principal's office, awaiting his turn? How he got all giddy as he overheard Buck ripping the old gal a new one? I think that kid captured how we all felt at that moment. Credit goes to John Hughes for that.
@Bobman-ml5qf4 жыл бұрын
@@omnipop4936 Oh yeah, and also about that little kid. When the Principle got made at Uncle Buck, and the little kid looked at the door freaked out (little bit); we as the audience were feeling that too.

I think the title nailed it, he felt like Everybody's Uncle. Or at least mine. I was growing up at a time as his movie career evolved from sidekick to more of a lead and loved them all. He was funny, that warmth, smile and twinkle in the eye felt genuine. And that dramatic scene in front of the committee in Cool Runnings always gets me. He freaking nailed that one. Live abroad, so no US cable, but still occasionally search John Candy on Netflix or whatever and if one of his pops up, we watch. Watched "Great Outdoors" (again) just last week. Thanks for this.

Coincidentally we were watching Rookie Of The Year on VHS when I grabbed that day's newspaper, casually skipped some pages to get to the movies and TV celebrities section page and then those two words (in Spanish): "Fallece Candy" (Candy Dies) stopped me cold. I couldn't believe it, looked up to the TV screen and there he was, as Cliff Murdoch, narrating the Cubs game. Remember telling my wife "You will never imagine who died yesterday" and as she was going to ask I simply pointed at the TV. She denied it, couldn't believe it either, it was so sad, and still is, 27 years later. He was the only movie star anyone could relate to, as if he was a neighbor or a relative, even a friend, can't think of anyone else comparable. Thanks for this video, loved it.
