That's because in the 2000s CGI became affordable for most movie studios and kept getting cheaper to the point that you can spend a week with a group of film student actors and then get some nerd with a laptop to create the whole movie with Adobe. It's gotten to the point that it's easier for them to use CGI blood instead of the blood squibs and everything ends up looking fake. The 90s was also when we started getting more dark and edgy everything, and everyone got a little more sarcastic so that only increases the dissonance. I cant remember if it was Christopher Lee in Star Wars or if it was Ian McKellan in The Hobbit, but one of those 2 supposedly broke down crying on set because of all the green screen everything to the point that he felt more like a prop then an actor.

If I may suggest a few that I really like Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (technically the second but it's so far disconnected from the first that you don't need to see the first) Near Dark from 1987 also Byzantium but I wasn't a huge fan in the sense that it was like the film here...however I will say it's a decent flick. It has a pretty cool waterfall scene where the water turns to blood and it's all practical effects.

Dusk Till Dawn is way too silly, IMHO. Try "Near Dark," a sort of unusual late-80s piece which does away with all the "sexy" vampire trappings and magic powers, giving it a greater sense of day-to-day realism. If you're an Aliens fan, you'll also enjoy seeing three of the main cast from that movie: Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jeanette Goldstein (Vasquez).

25 years old! I remember watching it on tv on the Sci-Fi Channel way back I was rather intrigued considering it was by one of the great horror directors John Carpenter who did 'Halloween' (1978) and 'The Thing' (1982) Never would've expected him to take a supernatural approach to the undead creatures of the night It's also based on the book by John Steakley A cool cast from James Woods to Daniel Baldwin to Thomas Ian Griffith The film is less than perfect and the treatment of women hasn't aged so well but it gets by with Woods' unique charm, some fun action set pieces, and great gore Yeah he's despicable throughout but does what he can to get the job done with an ultra macho cowboy visage he becomes somewhat of a satire Valek makes for a pretty cool villain being the toughest foe Jack has ever encountered The church urges him to stand down since he's outmatched Carpenter treats this as more of a B-Western than a straight up horror film, there's more emphasis on the thrill of the hunt He also does the score for this one like many in the past The setting of the desert is cleverly utilized being that vampires don't have many dark places to hide in the daylight unless if its a cave miles away or sleeping under the dirt The screenplay by Don Jakoby makes the movie stand out being one of the early films to have a full organization to hunt down supernatural creatures It also has the advantage creating a whole mythology for vampires and their origins tying to the Holy Church 'Blade' having come out only a few months before is far superior in many respects and ultimately that made this movie fall behind in terms of box office success But that doesn't mean Carpenter's film shouldn't be overlooked since it is still so entertaining and cool to watch He bends the genre itself and this managed to find a bigger success on home video
@davidsmith28423 жыл бұрын
This is a pretty good movie, it’s more of an action film than a horror movie but it’s labeled as horror because it has vampires in the movie. This movie stars James Woods I’m pretty sure this is the only movie I’ve seen him in so far I could be wrong though. The acting is great in this movie James Woods who plays Jack Crow The hero and Vampire slayer is fantastic and so is Thomas Ian Griffith who plays Jan Valek the master vampire the main villain. Their take on vampires is pretty cool I’m not going to give a lot away but it’s cool. John Carpenter is an awesome director. The story is great the movie is about a Vampire hunter James Woods who hunts down vampires and is looking for the original vampire Thomas Ian Griffith and put a stop to his terror and creating more vampires but Valek is trying to find this cross so he can do a ritual so he can walk in the day and it’s up to Jack to stop him he is accompanied by Anthony Montoya(Daniel Baldwin) his friend, Katrina (Sheryl Lee)a woman bitten by Valek who has a psychic link to him and Jack uses her to find Valek and Father Adam Guiteau who was sent by the church Jack works for to help Jack out. So can Jack stop Valek before it’s too late well you’ll have to watch this movie to find out? The acting, story, directing and special effects are awesome. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do rating 5/5
