I caught a 298# YFT the first time I tried this knot. I got a 321 two days later. Both were with 100# fluoro. These were the first Tuna over 100# for me! Great knot and easy to tie.

This reminds me of the knot called the jansek special. The only difference is the jansek special passes the tag end through the 2 loops a third time instead of your 2 times. I found it in a knot book & liked it because its simple, its a 100% line strength knot & when tied right & brought tight, the tag sticks out at a 90 ' angle from the leader under pressure & it forms a nice tight little "fist" thats perfectly in line. I use it on all hooks & those new tactical clips for quick changing lures. Great knot, never failed me yet. Use it on 40 & 50 lb fluoro all the time for lingcod & halibut - now I know it works for bigger game too. Thx! For the sake of my aging memory I call it the 1 2 3 knot (1 knot, 2 loops, 3 times throught the loops) simple simple.

Thank you for posting this video. I am heading to Costa Rica and purchased some 80# fluorocarbon for my leaders. I have spent the past week trying to find a knot that I could use with it. I tried a bunch of different knots, and they all looked ugly because the line was so thick. I came across your video, watched it twice, and tried it out. I was thoroughly impressed with how easy it was to tie this knot. I made 5 leaders with barrel swivels on each end. The knots look tight and clean. I will forever call this the John Collins knot. Thank you very much.

Captain, that knot is the base of a chain knot , after that springer knot to do half itchs in opposite side of the main line to form a chain of about 1 inch it works like a spring that absorbs the shock when a big fish hits. Love your videos- Eddie Fishtaco 😲

For smaller diameter lines like 15lb up to 40lb, are there any added benefits like increase in strength, to adding a few more turns (ex. 3, 4, or 5, instead of just 2)?
@ahndeux2 жыл бұрын
I got a motorized tension tester. I have been using the Springer knot for a while. Unfortunately, its not a very strong knot for the 15-40lb line class. Its breaks at about 75-85% of the line strength. Adding one extra turn (3 instead of 2) brings the strength up to closer to 85%, however, its very touchy. If you don't cinch the lines just right, it breaks at close to 50-60% of the line strength. The most reliable and best knot so far is the Trilene knot. That broke at 100% of my line capacity on 5 out of 6 tests. I was sold on it after seeing that result.

Tried it with Momoi 130# mono didn't like it. Tried it first on my desk drawer handle which is about 1/4" round slipped every time. OK maybe too thick?? So I tried a 9/0 bait hook knot held under tension but would come loose too easy wouldn't stay binded without tension. Too bad wanted to like this knot.
