George Jones blows this version away. Once Jones does a song it's been done and that's a fact.

The song was originally recorded back in late 1983

Totally agree George did a better job, I find it kinda weird hearing the start been sang instead of been spoken like how George does it in his version, which was of course the original also she has brown eyes not blue in the original 😕

I agree George Jones did it to but y'all it's a Murder Ballad! They both did it very well

A good singer singing this song and everyone gives a song a certain twist but there’s no finer singer then George jones singing a murder ballad

Tidbit: John was the first to cut this song in late 1984 for his "Blue Highway" album. The Possum likely learned it from this earlier version. George put it out in 1993, nearly ten years later. While I love both artists immensely, I prefer John's much more smooth vocal and production on this particular tune. Both, however, are very much worthy of a listen and a whole lot better than most of the crap they're putting out today. IMHO -oO( 🎻 )Oo-

John Conlee never ruined anything. His best works focus on redemption. Nobody was redeemed in this song. Conlee's slower & sadder rendition gives a deep feeling of how the DJ already knew in his heart that he'd been forsaken. He did what was necessary.
