@dorjedriftwood2731
@dorjedriftwood2731 6 жыл бұрын
blitz thekraken because there is no prodigy, because most people don’t know how to want to work and so it has to be other worldly. They have never been willing to suffer to achieve anything in there lives and can’t fathom how some are.

The people who are considered prodigious are those who have a deep love for something at a young age... to be great at anything takes hours and hours of hard work and dedication. But to someone that’s young and in love with what they’re doing, it’s not hard work, it’s not a matter of dedication... all those hours are spent doing something you truly enjoy. The fulfillment comes from the process, not the end result.

Agree with this - as a professional illustrator and concept artist I'd be a millionaire if I got a dollar for every time someone said something inane like 'oh you're so talented'... fuck talent - it's hard work and dedication for the most part and 1% innate ability.
@Michael-zj5gp
@Michael-zj5gp 6 жыл бұрын
What compliment would you prefer though? There's no way for someone who doesn't know you to know how much work you've put in to becoming a good artist. Talent is pursued interest, so saying "you're so talented" is not at all dismissing of the hard work and dedication you've put in. If they said 'naturally talented', or 'gifted', that'd be a different story.

3 times a day, 7 days a week, 3.5 years. This is comparable to someone who's been training for over 20 years. Is he as good as someone who's been training for 20 years? If not, he should go back to school. 16 years old and have been doing this for 3.5 years. That means his parents pulled him out of school when he was in junior high school for a sport that pays diddley. One injury and his young life is over.

This kid is in an extremely advantageous position to be able to afford the type of training he's received. I'm not trying to take anything away from Nicky. I think what he has accomplished is awesome! But he's clearly in an abnormally fortunate situation that will encourage him to succeed in BJJ compared to most of his peers. Most kids who can match him in terms of hard work do not have the time or money to be able to train the way he does.

Not a prodigy. Best school and with due respect to other teaching legends, best teacher in Danaher, anybody decent who puts in time with the Danaher system will be great. Their instructionals probably covers less than 10% of their in-gym stuff but if you drill it, you can shred anyone within your local area gyms. Imagine if your training at Renzo's was fully funded.

He is a prodigy, and he works extremely hard on top of that; most people who have done similar things in Jiu-Jitsu or in other sports, were born with a certain gift; let it be intelligence, physically attributes, or something else. And there is nothing wrong with that, people need to stop buying the, "if you work hard, you can become whatever you want". Not saying you shouldn't work hard, and enjoy what you do, but if you don't try something, and work hard at it, you wont never know if you were born with a certain gift. Can't wait for this match.

Part of it is knowing what you want the most. Then you work your ass off for it and do it like a mad scientist, engineer type to do everything you can to make what you do work. There, that's it.
@alexbambamextra

of course they are gonna say that, attaching the word prodigy to him, is taking away from how hard this kid works. Some people are born with certain talents/gifts, i am not sure why people want to believe otherwise.
@alexbambamextra
@alexbambamextra 6 жыл бұрын
yes that's it! Tell that to all the other people who work just as hard! Some people work their asses off, yes like mad scientists, but they don't reach the places most people like this kid, Marcelo Garcia, etc, have. AGAIN, not taking away how hard this kid works; but to think, ANYONE can do it, and all they need to do is work hard, is delusional.
@elel2608
@elel2608 6 жыл бұрын
Again, it's not for anybody. This Nicky Ryan kid is obviously gonna be a BJJ instructor or a coach. That's what he wants. John Danaher and Eddie Cummings were both getting their masters or PhD's (in philosophy and science respectively) but they knew that what they wanted to do was BJJ full time. If you don't have that same kind of desire, you won't ever reach their level.

This is truth. I have competed and excelled in rowing, novice strongman, boxing, muay thai and kyokushin. I consider myself relatively intelligent though most of my success came from the willingness to do the amount of work others wouldnt. This doesnt necessarily work in jiujitsu. Smarter game with high IQ on the mats nearly always beats work rate alone. Everything requires some sort of IQ but jiujitsu is different and it requires it in a way I had never experienced.

Good video. I think people are too obsessed with the concept of 'prodigies'. Some people use it as an excuse to not try, others pretend there's no such thing as natural talent because that somehow diminishes their own hard work. The fact here is that Nicky Ryan is in an incredibly advantageous situation when it comes to BJJ training, that along with his strong work ethic has allowed him to progress a lot faster than anyone else in the sport could possibly hope for. That doesn't make him a prodigy, nor does it mean he didn't have a natural gift for BJJ.
