These modern tractor drivers don't know their born. JD 2130, Duncan cab, pulling a Kidd double chop forager, Now that was mind numbing !!! Then came the 3130 & 3140 with the OPU cab. Now that was a tractor ! Showing my age now !! Keep the old stuff coming LM, a trip down memory lane for me :-)

gareth2673) Mind numbing with a four digit model, and with a cab!? Some of us go back to the triple digit, double digit and even the letter series.... Those are what I call mind numbing! Muffler technology and vibration dampening has come a loooong way since then! All in fun. I too enjoy all of the 'Vintage' Deere footage. Take Care Be Blessed!

I think the time of the early cabs was the worst for noise. Protection from the elements maybe but they acted like an amplifier for the noise !
@sawsurgeon7 жыл бұрын
I concur! Although the ag tractors I ran were open station, I ran Koehring Dumptors in the mining industry. Flat panel steel and no sound deadener with flat glass panels poised directly over a 6-71 Detroit... Loud and hot! Many early cabs had poor ventilation and no A/C irregardless of the industry, and generally a pathetic excuse for a heater. As you stated, "Protection from the elements" was about it. Give me an umbrella for the summer if I can't have A/C and just let me stay in the shop in the winter!

Outstanding tractor was the 3050, We had six of them back in the late 80s/90s on our arable/spud farm, Two of the first we had was on a D 1986 plate, and those were Turbo fitted by the dealer, (OPICO Turbo) for use on Howard Rotor spikes for spud ground, Then we had to join them a E Reg straight six, And then two later we had a deal from our local dealer (David Quick John Deere at Rushock Worcestershire) for three more 3050s straight six Ex demos" at a reduced price as there company was going bust, Also at the same time we had from them a 4055 for our ploughing tractor too, But overall the 3050 was tried and tested by us for over two decades" and thinking of the two Turbo Deers we had in the fleet" they were also fitted with creeper gears for the power harrows combined with the Turbo gave a great tilth for spuds and Sugar Beet, Problem was the Fuel tank was not large enough, Lol.

Thank you Michael, this is what we suspected but the strange thing is that it is a UK ordered tractor ! With that in mind you would think they would have ordered a 3650 or turbo'd a 3350. maybe there was a good deal going at the time ?

The contractor dad used in the late 80's and early 90's had several 3050's that were the same spec as this tractor and supplied by a well know Deere dealer in Shropshire.
@LordMuck7 жыл бұрын
As I remember (because they were rather famous for doing these) they were aftermarket turbos.
@adamstube36337 жыл бұрын
I've driven lots of 3050's with turbos and they were all like the one in your video with John Deere turbos and manifolds, in fact I can't remember seeing one with an aftermarket turbo. I'm almost certain that the turbo kits were on the John Deere price list at the time. As I said, the contractor dad used had a few, we had one at college and a good friend of mine had at least one of these. They were all 40k, high lift, prop brake. I think, but will stand corrected, that the early 3650's were only 30k, which is why people put the Deere turbos on 3050's. Admittedly, they were all from the same dealer, but I don't think there was anything suspicious going on.

Strange about the front brakes? The first manufacturer to pioneer front brakes was Lamborghini/Same/Hurlimann which had them fitted from the 1980s. I have seen many 40 series or 50 series deeres but none with front brakes. The 4 wheel drive shaft seems to be more level as opposed to be being as sloped down as others. Good to see you on the Irn Bru. One thing i prefer about the 40 series was that your splitter/dual power was not on the little lever like the 50 seried, but by knocking your 1-2-3-4 stick to the left for low and right for high.
@LordMuck7 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember Same's and Lambo's with the front brakes. We were discussing the Hi-Lo and I'm a fan of the short lever !

When the plate that slid across the gate used to wear it rattled like a pig ! That's why I preferred the little lever but knocking the splitter across had a certain satisfying quality about it !

you will find that most of the 3050's that are fitted with a turbo are 40k and before 1992. This is because the 3650 was not available with the 40k option until 1992 and was the only way to get a 115hp 40k JD. i have seen many propshaft brakes fitted to the 40k models. auto fwd braking was not available at that time

Absolutely lovely 3050, by far the best shape John Deere made in my eyes. I was out with a mate on one of them last year doing some slurry spreading, but it wasn't turbo'd. Don't know whether its the camera not doing it justice, but it sounds like the turbo is muffling the awesome straight 6 Deere barking compared to the naturally aspirated engine.
@LordMuck7 жыл бұрын
The nat-asp engines have a deep bellow, the factory turbo's seem to hush that a bit. The aftermarket turbo's were normally straight through and barked like a bastard and were great sounding....... for 10 minutes.

Hi Another unusual tractor you found there It's a shame Don Mcmillans ( Mr JD) is not still around I'd bet he'd probably of known about it's spec . your buddy's a bit of a nutter for making stuff work hard for a living from what we keep hearing !. I got bad memory's of bumping round listening to junk squeak, in that ragged out 2950 at the seed plant from watching you drive this one now. Now it's bed time here in Canada I'm hoping it don't give me nightmares L.O.L. That one had the splitter on one of the gear shifts it just moved sideways in the gate for the high/ low. I saw the 2850 comments, I'm pretty sure thats what Rycotewood college had when I was there in 1990. it was a 4wd with loader possibly from dealers at princess Risborough . There was a Ford 77 or maybe 7810 series 3 from Turneys , and I think a MF3060 from Browns to man my memory's getting bad after all this time. They were all immaculate back then being pretty well new. The only one we were allowed to take apart was the MF for some reason. I always wondered what happened to them when the place closed, it would of been a nice classic collection now. Take care see ya next time.

jcb 3cx 98 Hi, there were no 50kph made but there were 40kph 3050s and 3350s. The 40kph 3350s were great however the 40kph 3050s were not so good. They were underpowered for the speed and if you had the wrong man in the drivers seat you'd wear brakes out in half a day sending metal filings through the system. They were not very succesful. As for 50kph, it could be acheived by letting a 40kph tractor rev out to 3000rpm. Wouldnt be adviseable as she would easily drop a valve or blow the head gasket. Not to mention it would be a sucker for diesel. Hope this helped
@LordMuck7 жыл бұрын
You could get a 40k Case Maxxum to do 50k by blessing the injector pump with the magic spanner and getting her to rev to 3300rpm which the Cummins would do. Not that I ever did that of course....!
