Hello mucky. The tractor for the museum just has to be the old grey fergie te20 and that is simply because of the Harry Ferguson three point linkage. That hydraulic system completely revolutionised the way the tractors handled the machinery that is attached to them . For example,the plough,once its connected to the tractor it becomes a part of the tractor and can be picked up and put down at any point, and once in the ground the depth can be controlled from the seat without the use of a cumbersome set of wheels on the plough. That system made such a vast improvement in the versatility and speed of operations for the farmer, and in my opinion it has to be the only one to go into the museum. Oh, excellent video as always, keep up the good work mucky,looking forward to the next one.👍👍👍

An excellent wheel choice Mr. Muck! Old school all the way. I drove my cousin's 3350 back in the mid 90s and that's exactly how it was shod. Not quite sure how the wider tyres going to look but we'll see. Lovely tractor to drive, perfectly balanced.

Good video Kurt 👍 think it's gotta be the Fordson F was the tractor that could utilise many of the trailed horse equipment available at the time and also had its own version of mechanically raised equipment 🤔 and made a huge contribution to feeding the countries population during very hard times 👍👍

3000 series Massey, first of the truly modern tractors with the wheel slip radar and the beginnings of automated functions like auto 4wd and diff lock. All in a comfortable cab with air con. Yes they had their failings but they were the last revolutionary Massey, and I bet these big museums are full of te20’s already.
@28YorkshireRose123 жыл бұрын
On changing those tyres, you should have been here about 13 years ago, just after my dad died. I was doing my best to complete a few of his requests, which involved getting the right wheel set up on our DB 1390 four wheel drive. Talk about swapping rims, dishes, and tyres! It does your nut in! I got there in the end, and ended up buying a spare set of rims and tyres from the auction centre. That old 1390 stands up well and looks more like it with everything set up as it's meant to be. - You have to do what your own mind tells you, and what your heart is set on. As for the tractor in the museum? - Well, I once saw a 1907 (I think it was) Oliver Hart-Parr, one of the very first internal combustion engined tractors around, but interestingly, that tractor was subservient to the horse, and as such it was designed to mimic the way a horse (or team of horses) would draw an implement, so that it could be used to work with horse drawn implements. Imagine a tractor, trying to imitate a horse? Forty years later, and we have two in our yard, there was the 'British Anzani Iron Horse' trying to do much the same thing, but with its own dedicated implements, but, when you stand behind an Iron Horse, it does look vaguely like the arse end of a horse! But with wheels.......

I would go with a John Deere 2850. Probably the best tractor ever made. And I'm a Massey guy. The 2850 was simple, reliable, nice to drive, easy to work on, capable of ridiculously high hours and it played well above its weight. What's not to love?

Well done on a tyre size topic, a great example of your John Deere ! There is also 28 inch fronts on a Mf 399 for example. For your question - a David brown 1212, the hydra shift gearbox maybe not everyone’s cup of tea but it did help to start the power shift movement. 👍

From across the pond here in the USA, I would have to say a 4010 or 4020 John Deere. I believe they are one of the first tractors with closed center hydraulic. Deere was far ahead of everyone else with these tractors. And there are still lots of these tractors in use 50 years later and most having ten thousand plus hours. A true testimate to great engineering. And this is all coming from a guy who bleeds red equipment.

I dont think any other brand can compete with the importance of the three point linkage. Maybe secondary to it the PTO but really probably live PTO and live hydraulics and maybe today CVT variants as even a % or few% efficiency adds up so fast. Even to today too many do not even fully grasp all the ramifications of the Ferguson hitch patent

Got to be the grey fergie. I’d like it to be something else, but it’s the forerunner of all modern tractors which still use the 3 point linkage. Love a County too though...1174.... Equal wheels, did much if what a tracked dozer could do but tried lightly. Loved to see a Forestry Commission 654 working the forests with a set of balloon tyres and a winch in the back too. I got to see the sectioned nuffield that was in the science museum in the early 90's, that was really cool. As much as I like nuffields, the world as we know it wouldn't be much different had they never existed. The gray fergie probably represented the biggest change in farming because of its commercial success, but most forget that it was only an updated version of the ford-ferguson which itself was developed from the even earlier brown-ferguson which was a development of the black-ferguson prototype. However that's already in the science museum, so id probably look at the early 4wd and 6 cylinder convertioms as an example of farm led innovation. There's a lot of farm led innovation stories which get overlooked in favor of commercially successful manufacture's stories.

Choosing a tractor to go in the hall of fame is about as difficult as choosing between the different women I have met along the way . I have 10 old tractors in my collection and I use them all on the farm in some form or another . Every time I take one out it is the best one for the task at hand , it just feels right , similar to a previous reference in this comment . Some get the job done quicker than others and some just rumble along and give you a rough ride that you won't soon forget . I guess I will have to go with my first a Massey 50 . Did a lot of work with the old girl .

There is enough + or - in the mechanical lead to allow for this (as per JD's specs). Remember, it is not a modern tractor that engages 4WD/braking on the road and going UP a size isn't a problem where as going DOWN more than the recommended size would be as it will be pushed rather than trying to pull.
