Worked for a logging outfit in Washington who ran 3 to 4 jd 650s. Lot of road building lot of rock and lot of stumps. We had the C-frames all cracked and busted on 3 650s. Boss had a shop build new C frames out of steel like 3 times thicker. They came in 8 pieces all bent and curved to specs tops bottoms inner and outer sides for each side 8 pieces total for one C frame then our welders assembled and welded and attached the center tower assembly and other towers for lifting etc. Took alot of time and alot of welding. But they were unbreakable after that, from those dozers. I know he did use the beefy corner bits also.

WOW what an interesting video. I can’t believe the amount of force it had to take to bend those corners backwards on that blade….and being so thick. Unbelievable. I didn’t know that can happen to an all steel blade. That’s crazy. I probably wouldn’t have believed that was possible without seeing it for myself.

When you took that plate from the plaz cutter to the dozer you walked by what looked to a 1940’s era monarch lathe with about 16- 18” swing and a 6 foot bed. If it is you have got one of best manual lathes made. I machined a lot parts on one.

Your right indeed It’s a 1942 model I have one at the old shop made in 1943 Very nice old machines They don’t make them like that anymore!

You know young man I still have all my machine shop tools from my days in a jobber shop. Pretty extensive collection of tools. 1-12” micrometers, 1- 24” I.D. Micrometer, depth mics, calipers just to mention a few. Would you be interested in them? I kept them because there was no one interested in them when I retired from the industry. It would be really comforting to know they were put back to work by someone who could use them. Let me know if you might be interested, I would even take the time to drive down from Wisconsin to do a show and tell. Probably wouldn’t be till next spring though.

Not a lot of equipment dealers capable of making a repair like that. Equipment dealers and fabrication and welding usually doesn't go together.
