Hi Ryan, I've enjoyed your videos for many years. It is good to see young people like you and your brother staying on the farm. I have been farming and operating farm and construction equipment as far back as the 1970's. My grandfather started out with two Belgian horses on a one bottom plow. The first tractor on the farm came along in the late 1930's or early 40's. It was a John Deere B with hand start. It pulled 2-14" plow. Wow, what an improvement. I've always reserved my comments and only add something that is constructive in nature. The comments that several have made on the tractor being a dog is wrong. Yes WRONG! This could not be further from the truth. The 8235R is a powerful tractor and when used within its horsepower range it will operate efficiently. Your John Deere 8235R is an excellent piece of modern agriculture engineering. But, it needs to be set up correctly to operate at it's peak efficiency. It is way over ballasted for it's horsepower. With just rear duals, no front duals, no weights (front and rear) at all and that's including the front weight bracket the tractor weighs 25700 lbs. approximately (with 1500 MFWD front axle). This gives the 8235R an almost 60% rear and 40% front weight distribution. Exactly where it should be. So, In other words the 8235R needs NO weights to operate at it's peak performance. Any weights added just takes additional horsepower, reducing it's performance and burning a lot of additional fuel. Let alone the additional wear on the tractor in the long run., I see you have a full rack of 22 front weights. This adds at a minimum of 2575 lbs. This includes the front weight bracket at 375 lbs. On the rear you have the 1400 lb. weights for a total of 2800 lbs. The front duals and hardware are probably an additional 700 lbs. each. This adds another 1400 lbs. Total weight of the tractor is approximately 32,475 lbs. Way, way too much ballast for any job, implement you have and the horsepower of the tractor. Just because you can put all this weight on doesn't mean you should. The dealer should know how to properly ballast the product they sell. But, they are in the the business to make a profit. They will sell you/us things we don't need. Happens all the time. I would remove ALL the ballast, including the rear weights. I would leave the front weight bracket on just in case you have a heavy 3 point hitch load. Like when you had a 5 shank ripper on in December of 2019. With the front duals, the 1500 MFWD axle and front weight bracket you would not need any weight. But, if you need any front weights I would only add between 6-8 fronts weights. That still may be too much. Currently, you are weighted at over 160 lbs. per horsepower. Again, way too much ballast. For the implements you have and the loads you pull, your tractor should only be ballasted between 100 to 120 lbs. per horsepower. You would see an amazing increase in performance, pulling power and much greater fuel efficiency. Now, I would leave the front duals on just for additional floatation and traction. But, in reality those are not needed because of the jobs you have for your tractor. What I have just said is all in the owners manual. In the owners manual the 8235R requires NO ballast for any job. When John Deere came out with the 8000 series in 1995 it changed the whole row crop tractor market. They changed the whole geometry of the tractor from what they had before. Your 4640 for example is totally different in it's ballasting needs. This called for a lot changes in thinking for us farmers too. Your currently carrying over 6000 lbs. in ballast that is not needed. Just think of the fuel savings alone you would gain by removing 6000 lbs. Think about the compaction too. Your tractor would act like a different machine. Much more peppier, fuel savings, more horsepower to the ground, less soil compaction, etc... I have experience from John Deere 2 cylinders to the current 8000r and 9000r series. Please don't be offended by my post. You are young and smart. Look it up. It may be some work to remove the weights but the savings and performance increase will be felt immediately. Think about it.... Or, forget about what I just said. Just get a "chip" and increase the horsepower 50-100 horsepower. Then you would need all new implements, etc...(bigger and heavier). Your Case chisel plow is a lighter built machine. Look what the 4640 did to it. If not you would just be wasting more fuel having all that horsepower and not using it. Also, depending on who manufactures your "chip" you may be introducing more problems into the tractors operating systems (computer, mechanical, electrical, cooling, etc...). Again, please don't be offended by my post. That is not my intention. Keep up the good work. I love your videos.

Deere did make an 8225R in 2009-10, but it was just an 8130 with the R series cab. 2012 was when they built the 8235R which is the smallest "true R series"

Looks like the combo between the Kuhn land saver and the VT is a total winner for nearly all your tillage needs. You could use the Kuhn on a biannual basis to keep the compaction in check. Then use the VT for seedbed prep in spring and opposite years of the Kuhn in fall for a little residue action. Nice vid, sir!

It certainly looks well built, just waiting for our Kuhn mower to be delivered in the spring though I want to patch up our old drum mower so if we end up mowing anyone elses that we are uncertain about or patches of our own where there are stones we can use that as we have been burnt before when we have asked if there is any obstacles or obstruction we need to be aware of to be told no before then promptly hitting the remains of a concrete bunker hidden in the grass which is usually when they remember about it. 🤦🏻♂️
