The combination with the McFarlane 5127 multipurpose tillage tool really showcases the strength and efficiency in modern agricultural work. Thank you, Big Tractor Power, for bringing such fascinating visuals and information about the history of agricultural development. A must-watch video for anyone passionate about machinery and farming!"

BTP thank you for this video, as any video on an 8850 is welcomed out here; I honestly don't know why the 8850 is so beloved by us, considering its unreliability issues. What amazes me is that Deere still hadn't figured out you can't incorporate the engine with the framing of a tractor, starting with issues going all the way back to the 5010! This is the first video where someone highlights in-depth detail of the Kinze process and cost...very interesting! What a value of 28k for 1994!

Instead of buying Wagner production and putting them out of business, JD should have bought their patents and developed their superior design. Finally did it right with the 60 series. 20, 30, and 40 series they were trying to build a lower cost tractor. A lot of people ended up paying the rest of the cost in engine problems. If you never drove on ground uneven enough for the front axle to hit the stops they were all right.

Why did John Deere sell 4WD tractors with the engine used as a stressed chassis member in the first place? 8630,40 and 50 series all were short life tractors because of engine failures. This company caused its tractor owners millions of dollars in replacement engines over several decades. The 8820 could have been predicted to fail on day one because of this engineering blunder. Tractors don't seem to break down when they are not needed. This is exactly why we went to Caterpillar tractors back in 1997. Best move we ever made.

It’s a shame that more V8 diesel engines tractors weren’t made. However, in addition to the flaw plaguing the 8850, there’s another inherent problem with a V8 diesel-the journal spacings on the crankshaft are narrower than those of an inline 6 engine, making the crankshaft weaker in the long run and more susceptible to breakage. It was a big problem with the Cummins V-555 V8 diesel engine. Once engine manufacturers figured out how to get V8 power from an inline 6 engine it was the death knell for the V8 diesel in tractors and equipment.
@lynwessel24713 ай бұрын
Lack of torque was the main reason V8s didn't become more common in ag tractors.
@jamesbarbour84003 ай бұрын
@@lynwessel2471 that is indeed correct - gotta rev them pretty high up the rev band to get any kind of decent performance out of them. Plus you're 'feeding' two extra cylinders (compared to a straight six), at higher than average revs, so V8s get through the fuel too. Just like many Politicians, they sure look good and sound impressive, but ultimately fail to deliver and cost a lot of money !
