Very Helpful. I have tried everything short of dynomite to remove that blasted nut....even broke a breaker bar...no budge! UPDATE: took it to a local large truck shop, they had off in less than 30 seconds and no charge!...helps to have the right tools!

I have watched many cylinder rebuild videos and while all have been informative, you have explained in such a way that it makes sense. Thank you for your effort.

This video is fantastic, the detail he provides explaining which direction to put the internal seals was helpful. I almost put the wrong outer seal on my cylinder, but he mentioned to use the fat one so I caught that before finishing. Thanks for the great video, I would have never figured out how to get the cylinder back into the bore. :)

I am SO glad I watched your video! Got tired of paying $360 - $490 to have cylinders rebuilt at John Deere dealer. The most important thing I learned from ti's video is the "tool" plastic ring, used to fill the internal snap ring slot, for gland removal. I would have been pulling my hair out, and probably ruined a few tools that I might have accidentally thrown across the shop... lol. Thank You so much, once again!

Thanks for this video bud. Well done. Rebuilt two cylinders on my 512 loader first try. You made bending those internal gland seals look easy. I had a hard time but used a zip tie to squeeze it in half, then I was able to bend the two halves together and get it inserted into the groove. Carefully cut the zip tie and it all just fell into place. Much appreciated!!

Right, I mean I thought my hands were strong from punching a keyboard all day. After about 5 minutes mangling that thing my hands were beat and I started trying to see how I could do it with some pliers. I did manage to get it in there without using a tool, but this dude got it in there in 30 seconds or so.

Thanks for putting this video up. It was very helpful. My local dealer in Van Alstyne, Texas had the kit in stock. This is for Bucket Cylinder 420 Loader 013054 - ST406437 with rebuilt kit part# AH176344. Be warned, the kit doesn't come with a gland removal tool. You have to buy it separately. Maybe another kit has it included but the one I got didn't have it.

Wow what a great video. Thank you. I found your video searching for a, “spongy and slow response to front loader bucket.” When I have a heavy load in the bucket and drive over uneven ground I can see there is a lot of bounce to the bucket wanting to rotate downward. Do you think it’s the front loader dumping pistons causing it?
@ffrepeat21 күн бұрын
If it holds its position with weight it’s not the pistons. I would observe what it’s doing and make sure something isn’t flexing. What kind of loader is it?

We are repairing cylinders from a 158 JD loader - the outer snap ring on ours does not have the holes in it to grab with the snap ring tool to spread it- do you have any suggestions as to how to get that back on? We’re having a dilly of a time trying to get it back in place.

I used regular snap ring pliers that have the pins. Just below the pins, they have a flat area that worked great for those round snap rings. To compress the internal snap ring, I found that a CV joint clamp worked the best for me. It is thin enough to slide partway into the end of the cylinder.

thanks for posting video!!! where do you obtain the seal kits?
@jimjordan56306 ай бұрын
That was going to be my question. Hopefully a good quality reliable seal kit not from JD, Amazing or eBay and hopefully definitely not since made in Chy-Na! 😂 Being your question was a month ago with by response I guess we might be out there with Bob Dylan and left blowing in the wind! 😂

Now, if that ain’t the manliest flex I’ve ever seen now I do have trigger finger in my middle finger on both hands plus carpal tunnel and Dupatrends disease but most times and I’ve done those seals multiple times without those tools and without a zip tie but this one time I had to use a zip tie because I stood there for about five minutes trying to do it your way and I could not get that done

hurts my heart. i tried and tried but mine would not go in any further. was like a suction that was fighting me in or out. ended up just dropping it off. $270 was the damage. and now i know i have another problem as the piston won’t extend up (out). only down (in). unless i reverse the lines. 😭

Appears you skipped the removal of the inner snap ring that needs to come out before putting in the "tool" in its place.

Nope….the tool is there to allow the snap ring to compress so you can remove the gland.
