Great Video. If you put grease in the drilled hole before tapping, it traps most of the swarf or chips from tapping.

You weren't kidding about those spindles being worn out, geez! I certainly agree those zerks are inconvenient, I see some of the new models the black covers are hinged and lift up out of the way, but they are only on the more expensive models.

How does the grease get into the baring? There sealed!
@roadragecustoms3 жыл бұрын
Even the original spindle had a zerk. They aren't sealed bearings.

That is a nice option, but for the cost I guess I will have to continue greasing my LA145 deck with the grease zerks provided, Good video,

Neither did I. Great video because it provided a tip we can use both for our mower and GM vehicle!

good one wow wish my internet company replied that fast just for information those grease nipple are originally pressed in hence why they spin will come out with vice grips saves drilling a hole

An excellent video but can't believe you went through all that and never bothered to pressure wash the deck itself. Probably is a lot of rust under that dried clumped grass.

JB R. I can't believe I went through all that and scattered the engine within a month! Oh well, I got an identical mower so I can use that one for parts.

They, John. Deere now has sealed bearings so no need for grease fittings.
@thasty1004 жыл бұрын
TKRM2007 that’s funny because I have a 2004 l130 and it has spindles that have no grease fittings and they lasted until 2020 . To be honest they were just a little noisy but I decided to go ahead and replace the spindles with 3 new Oem John Deere spindles. I thought about just replacing the bearings but decided to replace the complete Spindle instead. Those bearings I pushed out of the old spindles were Peer “brand name” bearings. Totally sealed with metal seals not plastic. It’s all in the quality of the bearings. So my point going back to what you said about sealed bearings in those spindles make sense. They are expensive bearings and sealed so I’m guessing that’s why they lasted so long. Now jumping to my new oem John Deere spindles. Having fittings on the spindles unless the bearings are open on one side really isn’t going to do much for those bearings. Right !

Just a question.. I sure you did this off camera.. You did open the spindle housing and clean it out, right? Full of shavings inside from drilling and tapping. Definitely wouldn't want that in your bearings.

Great idea..in theory...but there is absolutely no way to not have a shaving in a brand new part..lincoln makes little custom zerk extensions..that go right on the zerk..that way no drilly..no shavy

could you provide the part number for the hoses? Thank you! Great Idea!!! Im looking at getting one of these to replaced an old wheel horse that makes mowing a task.
@roadragecustoms7 жыл бұрын
Jason Zimmerman K6714 is the part number for the Moog hoses.

I found that Ridge makes the most powerful cordless impact gun for the money. I used a DeWalt at work. Not as powerful.

Does a d170 have water tight bearings in the deck?
@roadragecustoms6 жыл бұрын
Sean Rhodes I think if it had sealed bearings, it wouldn't need grease fittings.
@seanrhodes97186 жыл бұрын
You are right, was just wondering if they were water tight.
@roadragecustoms6 жыл бұрын
They are not water tight. They aren't even grease tight.

what about all that metal you just put inside the bearing housings then blew it further in with air
@roadragecustoms7 жыл бұрын
Jason Abell Well, the good news is that it was aluminum. It isn't hard enough to cause any damage. Some people dip their drill bit & tap in grease to try to catch the shavings. You can also use a shop vac or air powered vac.
@glynowilliams5 жыл бұрын
Good idea ..but useless...They use double lip seals on but bearings....you need to remove the seals on the inside of the hub and crossdrill the inner bearing spacers...
@warrenharvey44204 жыл бұрын
I thought that as well Glyn! iI the bearings used are sealed bearings, (which is what I believe they use in these mowers) there isn't any point going to all that trouble to position grease nipples to any part of the shaft housing, because the grease only sits inside the housing doing absolutely nothing.
