John Deere Deck Gear Box Rebuild - Maybe

Disassembling a leaking and problematic deck gear box. This gear box part number is MIA12567. The current deck gear box part number is AUC10298. This also subs for AM136330 and DE19088. You can get parts for this gear box, which is better than the older style. However, many parts do not have a part number...... I will explain that in a future video.

your lock washer is missing the inside tab that set in the keyway on the shaft. plus's it goes between the nut and bearing. the nut goes with bevel towed the bearing so you can bend the outer tab up in the slots on the outside of the nut. this is what keeps the nut from loosen up.

Yes the locking tab ring is missing the inside lock tab...needs to be replaced with a new one. The shims are of different thicknesses to adjust in/out to position both gears for proper mesh.

I found jd part numbers from JD parts catalog and went tp Amazon. Also two bearings are not available and have no catalog part number. I found numbers on bearing and found on Amazon too. I verified the size with a caliper and rebuild my 60D gearbox for $95. All 4 bearings and 2 new seals. JD offers this for $422.

cool, can you post the numbers for the rest of us? I need to do a box on a 60 inch deck for a 425. same problem. no parts from deere really, just seals and rings. Just gotta buy a whole box if you can't find replacements or your shafts are shot.

Get that "plug" out the back with a brass punch from inside out. Easy peasy.

Can you bend one of the tabs back act as a keeper if you can't find one or weld a little nub on it and ask as a keeper

@@mmrbeef @ 16:59 I think you had the lock washer right but you just had the nut on upside down(chamfer fits into the lock nut) maybe? Straighten out the one bent tab & then after you tighten it down again re-bend the locking tab. The nut & locking ring is what essentially sets your bearing clearance.

They are not washers they are shims to take out end play.

As with most of my videos technical terms will escape my pea brain at times. Not sure if it made the final video but I did express my concern over the number of “washers” and the gasket material thickness that I have on hand.
