My grandma has had this exact toy for three generations of my family, she still has it somewhere in her home in near mint condition. Glad to see a old one being repaired.

Always impressed there is usable metal under all of that pitting and rust! 😮

I once had a piece of metal disintegrate in my hands because it was nothing but rust. That was the single most rusted thing I've ever beheld in my life. This toy was the second. Well done!

I love your sandblaster and bake oven. This restoration is what they call a Mop-n-Glo.

The restoration is genuine, but it's obviously yet another example of a toy which has been purposefully pre-rusted to create channel content, like the toys on so many other similar channels.
@isaacsrandomvideos6674 жыл бұрын
Jon Vincent I have seen that before, but this isn’t like the others, I mean if the guy really has done that, he’s an absolute idiot, ruining a great old 70s toy. But I am a critic for channels like that, and I really don’t think this one is.

I love these Nylint trucks. I'm more of a square body Chevy guy myself, but the late 70's Fords are great as well. When I was growing up we had a 78 Ford farm truck with a flat bed. It was named "Barely" because everything barely worked. :) I like it when it is so far gone you can just have fun with it. Excellent job.

Talk about a silk purse from a sow's ear - what a transformation! The only thing that didn't work for me was the gloss black tires. Regardless, this restoration is really nice!
@MrCrystalcranium4 жыл бұрын
I have a few questions...Where do you get these rust buckets? It seems you have an endless supply of abandoned, destroyed Tonka toys! Second, no criticism here but it seemed on earlier restorations you took more time to address pitting, either with filler or high build primer. Now you go right to powder coat after sandblasting. The pitting is still visible under the high gloss finish. Third, did you go to gloss black paint on the wheels intentionally? I would have gone flat black. And last, a general question about powder coating...I have always heard it is an economical way to paint because the electric bonding saved material but just about every powder coating process I have seen, it seems so much of the material does not end up on the piece. It never looks like more than 10% actually bonds.

Not to take away from his restoration skills, but it probably helps that the toy was obviously artificially rusted just to create content. Lots of similar channels seem to do this. Probably because they're running out of genuine old rusty toys to restore.

I’m always amazed at how rusted these projects are. Where were they left for so long? It’s amazing how the weather and sun will destroy metal if left outdoors long enough. Great restoration!
@PrayerRider3 жыл бұрын
Well, I would guess back yards, buried in the dirt by little boys, or forgotten in fields or places of tall grass. You know how little boys used to love to play with trucks and cars in the dirt. Or perhaps left in old sheds or barns or other buildings on farms. Or maybe left in damp old cellars or hot old attics. All kinds of places these lovely little old toys could have been left where moisture could get in and turn them rusty. So glad to see that somebody fixes these beautiful pieces of the past! I would be thrilled to pieces to run across the kinds of old trucks and cars that these restorers show us, and try and fix them up myself. Maybe in my metal detecting if the dang smoke goes away before summer is over.
