All manufacturing is driven to appease the investors . We used to produce a product for money, (private ownership )that leads to long term thinking, now we invest money to make money which leads to short term thinking (on the stock market ) Profit for the investor not in the best interest of the company or the worker that produces a product. It all boils down to greed !!!!!!!

For farmers, means absolutely nothing if farmers are smart and just switch to different brands that are equal if not better than JD. Besides, JD quality really has gone down compared to other brands while parts costs increase along with service costs as well since, JD requires only their technicians can work on the equipment. So, let them go, just make certain they can't sell any of their product back in the USA. JD = over priced junk and corporate greed, nothing more. "Reasonable" priced equipment? Seriously? 1 million for a combine??? I wouldn't exactly call that "reasonably priced". Farmers do not and can't work or fix their own equipment due to JD push for exclusive rights to their own equipment. Let the other brands hire former JD workers that have been laid off already. Hate to say it but, in a way, farmers have done this to ourselves... trying to rely on new technology and continue to push said technology. Don't get me wrong, technology is great IF and only IF it's utilized correctly. No loss of jobs or sole reliability of said company to have exclusive rights to repair.

Great piece. Appears to sound very accurate. Labor unions have screwed themselves outta jobs across almost every industry and then they wanna whine and cry over losing their jobs to Mexico & overseas. $56/hr is insane and as a farmer it's a slap in the face bc it contributes so I can't afford to buy new and not only that, but the farmers grow all the food and as a result Deere and every other supplier is making money off our backs in an obscene way when you're talking these kinds of profits by Deere. By NO MEANS am I "carrying water" for Deere; I think they've become an evil greedy corporate empire....and proof of that is their record earnings for the corp. and the CEO.

I’m glad channels like these are spreading negative press about them. They deserve it, just from the simple FACT that a farmer can’t work on their own tractor without spending thousands on their software. A large farmer recently told me that Deere is going to reduce existing inventory on dealer lots, when the agricultural economy recovers Deere will have much greater pricing power by keeping inventory at modest levels and larger more expensive equipment will have to be ordered by the farmer before it is shipped to a dealer lot.

Yes, the expectations of the JD leaders have gotten out of hand. The pay ratio between CEO and line worker needs work and examination. Both the line and high level workers influence the bottom line. China is doing a quid pro quo for US tariffs, and switched from buying US corn, soy and wheat to buying from Brazil. The effect is to see these (US) commodity prices drop 20-37%, I saw yesterday (30'12'24). Tariffs are a tax that the consumer pays, not the country of goods' origin. What about NAFTA (North American free trade agreement) - threatening to tariff John Deere machinery for moving to Mexico would seem a contradiction. Deere locking software access is an alienating move, likely to make other brands increasingly attractive. Corporate greed over practicality.
@ChrisA-o6rАй бұрын
It's a nasty situation and sometimes you have to be as nasty as the company. That's why tariffs are on the table. It may be prudent for farmers to start looking at simpler farm equipment and be prepared to spend more time in the field. With that said it's very hard to reconcile $56 to $4.50. This is the MAJOR reason the US has a service economy.

Corpoations exist for the benefit of shareholders. Period. They don't exist for the benefit of employees, all of whom, workers and managers, are 100% expendable. To expect otherwise is naĩve. Question: Workers get paid wages, managers get a salary, executives get "compensation"? Compensation for what? How were they damaged or injured and thus needing "compensation"? Note; CEO John C.
