Common issue with this good old skidded. I had one. The first thing I noticed was a " clunk " when turning hard . Thanks for inviting me into your awesome shop

Great video good place for your son to grow up I love how the owner only wants a couple more years out of it so won't let you do too much 20 years hence they'll still be running it

When I seen a skidder for the first time I was about the same size as the little guy you have standing in the machine. To me the wheels appeared to be 8 feet tall when I was a kid.

That pin you have looks exactly like the blade pin in my timberjack

I seen that you have problems with short pieces being cut. My suggestion is to add an additional vice on outside of blade make plate to extend and reinforce bottom that way it can always be removed at any time.Basically two clamps for small items just a small amount of work to save time ,effort and extra work.

It is always a judgement call to decide what the appropriate fix for any given situation is, finding the compromise between what the customer needs, what they can spend, and how long the machine will last is a challenge.

The last time I was around 440 JD skidder like that was 40 years ago....... I like 7014 it starts on contact and also a strong rod, I need to get some. If theres a gap I fill with 6011 then weld rest with 7014...... I had some 7014- 3/16 20 years ago, it was as fast than .035 mig wire......

The 7014 definitely has the advantage over 7018 in its storage requirements, everybody that's leaving their 7018 laying around outside with no oven ought to just be using 7014 in the first place.

A easier way to put pin in place is use a hydraulic jack to push in .

A lathe and a beard like that does not compute
