John Deere Lx 188 Motor and Transmission Oil change

Thank You for your video. I bought my LX188 new in 1992. It still looks new. I never realized the transmission fluid change was so easy. I just did it for the first time.

Hi- I watched your very informative video and thank your for the precise instructions. However now I have already bought the hydraulic fluid. But I can take it back- Did you notice anything bad upon your using the hydraulic fluid? Also I have 3 bolts (plugs) under there and I could not see which one you took out? Thank you!

Nice video--I have the John Deere LX188 Factory Technical Manual and it states : "DO NOT USE BIO-HY-GARD in this transmission" . John Deere TURF-GARD SAE 10W-30 or equivalent is preferred.

@@howidoit6012 The manual lists only 3 options: TURF-GARD SAE 10W-30, PLUS-4 SAE 10W-30 , or TORQ-GARD SUPREME SAE 5W-30. It states that other oils may be used if they are rated API Service Classifications SG or higher. Too bad You tube doesn't have a way to post pix or I could insert a photo of the service manual page. Hope this helps

At the time when I did the oil change I read somewhere that you can also use Hy-Guard . But you are right according to Tuff Torq (for K61)tufftorq.ordertree.com/media/promo/TuffTorq/Fluids%20and%20Lubricants.pdf I made an update in the subtitle of the video . Thx

I have a lx 178 and the seat will slide ahead so u don’t have to remove to get to the trans oil, atleast mine does

I have a LX 186 with the 17HP air cooled single cylinder and it states in the manual, to prevent contamination in hydraulic system, DO NOT drain or change the hydrostatic transmission fluid.

yeh right so you have to buy new tractor when when trans goes bad . tuff torq the manufacture of john deere transmissions gives oil change interval and oil type for each transmission.

@@garyvisintin8431 I bought it new in 1991 and still runs like a new one. I'm afraid if I go against the owners manual and change it now and it goes bad I might regret it.

Boys, I bought a new LX188 in 1994. I had the dealer install an hour meter when I purchased it. The Tuff Torx went out at 1000 hours. I bought a used one for $200 and installed it, it lasted 500hrs. When they are wear out, they are wore out. I changed the oil every 200 hrs on the Tuff Torx. I average 50 hrs a year mowing.
