John Deere Presents Forage Harvesters and Blowers

Another fine video that was easy to convert, thanks to the good quality of the record & filmstrip. It was nice to learn about these forage harvesters from Deere. That hay pickup looks interesting to say the least & those silo blowers look neat. I bet that 55H would be handy to have for blowing high moisture shelled corn with that hopper on it.
I will stick to my Gehl chopper & forage blower, though. Better capacity with a 188 chopper & my blower doesn't have me hiding my tractor around the corner of a silo. If I was blowing into a mow, the 55 would be fine. Otherwise, there would be a fence in the way.

We had a 4010, # 6 chopper, two 112 chuck wagons, and that blower, we completely wore out the # 6 chopper and went on to a # 12 chopper.

Very interesting! A local farmer still uses many of his older John Deere forage harvesters and other implements from this era. They sure we're built to last!

Similar but not as complicated, the heavy flywheel chopper worked well with the 2 cylinder tractors. One row of tall corn was plenty for my JD 60 and even for my JD 70.

Brings back memories! I had a #12 Forage harvester with 3 heads and the #55 blower with flat belt drive. How did you get all these old presentations? There must be some around of even older equipment but never show up on KZbin. I have seen a 3 part series from BF Avery from about 1938, I have watched them 2-3 times, it was the first tractor my Grandfather bought in 1943 when he switched from horses. I had that tractor until 2005 when I sold out of farm equipment and moved from Michigan to Kansas. I did keep 4 pieces of horse drawn equipment and hauled it to Kansas.

What years were the No6 and No 12 made ,any one know?

I believe they were made from about 1960 to about 1965. They were replaced by the #34 chopper, which were designed for the higher horse power 4020 and 5020.

@@greggergen9104 Thanks .Remember the neighbor having a no12 with the gas engine parked in the woods 40 years ago.
