Appreciate the valuable repair technology that you share on your channel. Your willingness to share has been a “crop saver” for many farmers that just need to keep rolling. That being said, what some don’t realize is that the clock starts as soon as the service truck is on the road. (Plus Mileage) Please be patient with your service technician, as it may sometimes take more than one trip back to the dealership for parts.That being said, there are almost always interlocks that can be bypassed temporarily to get you to your farm shop, or get the machine off the highway. Don’t be afraid to ask the service tech nicely and respectfully. By the way, the dealer, John Deere, Case, Agco or whoever, will charge you no less than $ 150/hr. John Deere around $ 165/hr. Point is, show some respect for the technician . A simple act of kindness , may save you thousands of dollars in the end.

That last statement you said is so true and yet so frustrating. “If I didn’t know about this issue I would of been chasing it for ages” Damn right. Some people would be out there checking pump pressures, e-stops an everything. Like you don’t know what you don’t know an a 1hr fix can turn into a 3 day ordeal. I am sure the farmers would love it if the part was only $30, in fact I would imagine they would be dancing around happy as. But, the reality is parts for any brand not just JD is expensive..... even the tires are not cheap. The cost of parts is a reflection in the high cost of the purchase price and what is the purchase price of a combine? $500,000 upwards? For some of the larger ones I would guess they are approaching $1 Million. The teeth even on the header..... even if they were $10 a set how many sets are on a normal header??? High Machinery purchase costs for farmers most in the city do not realise that. High running costs and high maintenance costs. Eg for an average farm how much fuel a year would they go through??? I would imagine that amount is staggeringly high. And that is just the fuel cost....

And you charge the farmer a ludicrous amount to fix it. My issue with JD is that the farmer is only leasing the machine from the mothership. . As an engineer keep in mind that although poor designs do exist and can cause problems, but more often engineers are asked to design things a certain way. The JD way just happens to be to make money from any and everything. I can't believe farmers are putting up with this and are often totally shut down until a tech looks at it. I know you can't bad mouth JD, but I can. Between piddly little issues like this and the right to repair issues corporations are going the wrong way by my thinking. I can't see why bad turn signal unit should ever leave a customer in a lurch, just poor design or worse yet intentional design. Well best if you keep your comments to yourself regarding my feeling about these issues. Keep up the good work and watch your back.
@ZKMasterTech3 жыл бұрын
There are lots of times I cuss engineers but there is nothing I can do about it. All I can do is fix the issue the best I can to help the customer. I don't stand on either side when it comes to right to repair. I see both sides and both have valid points. But I can't do anything about that either. So I'm only focused on the things I can control and that's doing the best job I can for my company and the customer and keep that green iron rolling. I can honestly say there is no perfect brand but Deere is the best company you can choose from in my opinion. They have always treated the customer right and warrantied things that they technically didn't have to. I've never seen Deere do the wrong thing or made a decision I didn't agree with. That's rare in a large company like that. I don't think they intentionally design anything to fail. Thank you for watching.

I can't think of one customer of mine that honestly gives a crap about right to repair. When they have a problem, we come out and fix as fast as possible. If we can't fix it within a reasonable time frame, we give them a loaner if ones available, which there usually is, and they keep running. Less down time. Our customers don't care about having the ability to program a controller. They just want the pros to come out and fix it right and quickly. They are very grateful for what we do for them.

@nzcyclone3 жыл бұрын
In all fairness though. It is not just the JD's. They are all getting more and more complicated, combines, tractors, all farm equipment really. Not one brand is better than the other, they all break down. For example how many combines have been stopped simply because a sensor has failed??. Although in saying that it does seem very weird to have a turn signal indicator disable a combine.......But I guess the other argument is the turn signal is a safety device, granted not used in the field but most certainly is if going down a roadway.
