It's time for a recovery mission! What do you do when you have a 50,000 lb combine in the field that will not move and you cannot run the engine? Without running the engine you have no hydraulics or steering. This John Deere s680 combine has a failed prodrive hydrostatic pump. There is metal and brass pumped all throughout the hydraulic system. #johndeere #johndeerecombine #rescuemission #s680

Great job of recovery Zeth and crew. I learned a lot watching you get this disabled combine out of the field. I sincerely appreciate the lack of drama, not one mid-step and took it a step at a time. You and your crew took caution not to damage the combine. Each movement was studied and completed slowly and easy does it. I would think the owner really appreciated your approach. I am guessing you have done that before. Great job Zeth. Thanks for filming this so we could benefit and follow you along. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

I gotta thank you for showing how you moved it without being able to undo the parking brake. The S680 on our farm was stranded in our shop because we had to tear down the EGR system. We obviously couldn’t start it with it half tore down, so taking off the drive couplers was the perfect solution. We pulled it back super easy and made us room for other projects. Still gotta wait on deere to get back with us on whats the issue with it

Great video reminds me about 20 years ago about same size Russian made combine harvester had engine seized and needed to recover about 20 miles so what I have done made an A frame attached to rear axle beam and towed it backwards also tried to connect hydraulics to the tractor for the steering but it was too complicated so removed steering rams completely only left cross axle steering tie rod tried to pull and it steered itself follow the tractor and happily made all them miles to the yard to rebuild the engine Loved them complicated jobs back then Thank you again and best regards

What a nerve-racking job, not to mention dangerous and expensive. Everyone can boast there equipment all they want regardless of color, but they all break down. I am a little partial to green but you certainly can't knock red either. Seems like just yesterday when my Grandfather was talking about how stubborn the ox was before he got horses, and was proud to own both while sitting in the cab of a 1466 International combine. Now a combine is a $1million.

Moght I suggest a portable power pack in your service truck with hoses long enough to attach to things like the inloader auger it would pay for itself by the hours saved doing things manually and save dumping precious hydraulic fluids out of the combine or tractor or what ever implement you need to hook up to. Hope the tip helps make your day easier cause I kknow it can be tough sometimes. Work smarter not harder is my mantra along with if you give a lazy man a job he will fimd the easiest way to do it lol!

you should watch the video form Larson Farms.... 9870 STS Combine Dealer told them that the steering is mechanical and the combine does not need to run to steer the combine. Fine the combine had a hydro issue and did not want to start it. Well turns out the steering is hydraulic and they broke the steering wheel off trying to turn. i think the video is called "Dougo Breaks Steering wheel off" quite funny video.

I am disliking newer, larger equipment. When it breaks down it needs specialized experts, equipment… to move, fix. Engine stuck, small fire in gear drive 6600? Pull away. Need to steer? And couldn’t from cab? 8’ board hooked to arm while slowly rolling guides. I had a newer tractor stuck in place for 2 weeks for electric relay. They are great when they work right. But 10x worse when they don’t

My question is on a 2013 S660. Random green trailer icon on the corner post now and then, and going down the road, it'll show up on the touch screen that there is a trailer attached with the chopper down message. I asked a Deere tech that conducted our recent inspection if there was a DTAC regarding this, and he located one related to recalibration of the lighting circuit. Is this a common annoyance? Is there a way to let Mr. Combine know that there is certainly no trailer back there? Thanks for your time and excellent videos!
