In this video Big Tractor Power is out in the field with a model year 2022 JOHN DEERE S790 Combine 75th Anniversary Edition harvesting corn with a C12R 12 row corn head. In this video I ride along in the class 9 543 hp 400 bu. combines cab and visit with the farmer Billy to talk about harvesting 11,000 acres of corn with 5 S790 combines. Billy also talks about the JOHN DEERE combines he has owned and operated over the years.

I would like to do that. The farm while mostly John Deere today has had a variety of tractors and combines. They had Minneapolis Moline, INTERNATIONAL, Allis Chalmers and WHITE over the years before going green. Even with John Deere they have had Ford 4wds, a Case IH QUADTRAC, many Challengers and now Fendt.

Thanks again for getting Billy to share some of his farming insights… he does a great job on camera when you get to ride along. A question that I’d like to hear Billy’s response is whether he’s ever considered running tracks on the combines? One other question - did you ever make a video detailing the huge grain storage system on Billy’s home farm?

With GPS would it be necessary to have a planter match the number of rows on the corn head? As long as the spacing between the rows are the same I won’t think it would make any difference.
@Snowtruckdriver
@Snowtruckdriver Жыл бұрын
@@dwightl5863 the only time it would make a difference is in hilly country where the "guess row" spacing varies due to side slip on the emplement.

It seems so strange to realise they had been around so long. We have a photo of my dad as a teen having lunch before a traction engine powered thrasher where he had been working with his dad, grandfather and uncles alongside the owner of the engine and thrasher. He would have been 86 next year and was still working full time through hay making this year.

So what he's basically saying is an X series combine with a 12 row head is ridiculously small? A 16 row is just right? With the 16 row X series his planters are useless and need upgrading to 32 row? Apparently it's a ripple effect. Is he the boss man of Garnett Farms? I saw one year in the comments that they farm close to 40,000 acres!? Awesome video! 😃

It would be nice if Deere would up the horsepower & the grain tank capacity on the S780/S790 to match the same on the CaseIH 8250/9250 axial flows.Back in the 1970s I believe that the Massey Ferguson 760 was just a bit bigger.I wonder if Billy got a Turbo 8820.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
Both very good questions. I will have to see if I could interview Billy on the history of their farm equipment. The farm is several generations old. They still have the first tractor ever use by the farm a 1905 Avery Steam engine. I recently saw a picture of the home farm from 1982. It was big for 1982 and an Allis-Chalmers 7580 4wd is sitting in the yard. I am sure the equipment history would be interesting. Billy has good stories about their first 24 row corn planter in the early 80’s pulled by a JD 4320, running V8 John Deere 8850 4wds in the 80’s and Big Ford 1156 4wds in the 90’s.
