Thanks for the video. I have this snowblower. It's only a couple of years old. I had another one on my X734. It never gave me any problems. Gear oil and greasing kept it running great. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing.

The first thing I would do is convert it from chain and sprockets to a gearbox. Got mine on Ebay for under $200.00. Bolts right on, no drilling or fab needed. The one big thing you didn't cover was the huge gap between the junk plastic impeller and the housing. The bigger the gap, the more problems you have with plugging up when snow is heavy. I added rubber paddles to mine as I had seen in other videos. Made a huge difference.

I’ll be honest, that’s my dad’s blower and he just wants it to work. The rubber paddle extenders are reasonable but he wouldn’t see the value in switching to a gear box. (However I understand the benefits)

Did you see a difference with the gear box? I’m really not impressed with my 54 inch JD snowblower. Thinking about doing the Argimetal impeller and the gear box upgrade.

@@alexbeebe3447 Noticed it's quieter and maintenance free. No more chain to deal with. I am also thinking of doing the impeller before next season. The rubber paddles I added made a big difference, but I did notice a slight vibration at high RPM but I don't need to run it high now that it doesn't plug up like it used to.

@@bruce2672 Excellent, same thoughts as me! Also thinking about wheel weights, chains and a ballast box. I have a 3 percent grade and it struggles to get up it.

Changed my outside chain drive to the internal gear box style.. much quieter.. Upstate NY 10 miles to Canada and close to Vermont border..

Had to retention my snowblower chain myself this season. Luckily mine hadn't stretched out inches like your pops, I was able to take up the slack with the tensioning bolts. Can't believe how much your chain stretched.

I was super surprised how much it stretched, never thought it could go that far!

Great video. Best comment, " Let's take off these 6 bolts and see what happens". I'll be doing this maintenance this summer so this will be a good guide. Can' t get it off the floor though.

You sure went to a lot of work to change that chain. Roller chains have a master link, and some have half links to help get the proper length. Those links make it easy to take the chain off.
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 11 ай бұрын
Tight quarters in there. Probably would have been more work trying to feed the chain around. Thanks for watching!

Congratulations! You've now come over to the old man way of doing projects.. on a damn table. With my back pain, I'm starting to do things "the slower way." But I wonder if I'm gaining efficiency. I certainly can physically work on something longer if I'm not straining and constantly bending. And then I can accomplish more at home because my back isn't killing me at the end of a long day.

I won’t lie, it was so much nicer working up on a table rather than being hunched over the entire time

Great video, going to do some of this on my Deere 54" blower at end of season. There's a curious wrinkle at the top of my gearbox, I'd wager I'm getting moisture in there and will probably have some of that milky oil in there.

More than likely. Seems all gearboxes attract water, I’m not sure why. Thanks for watching!

My Deere dealer told me to spray the chain after every other time blowing. There is a slot window above chain to spray it. Liquid Wrench has a chain spray oil. Newer blowers now have an enclosed oil bath case.

I just got a new battery powered grease gun for Christmas and since I use Dewalt other tools that's what I have. I don't use the lube lock but I have one and only reason I don't use it is because it won't fit on my tractor zerks. I have yet to use it but I did fill it up and try it. Years ago I had one that ran on air but it didn't work very well.

Just a tip: wd 40 is no good for chain lube. Get some fluid film or proper chain lube and that chain will last a long time

Here’s the deal…light oil is 5w-30…heavy oil is diesel oil, 15-30…gear oil is welp…gear oil, 90w…anything in between is just nonsense and a money grab…but I seen you used John Deere grease, the green stuff!…and you definitely missed a few more grease fittings, end of auger bearings and the impeller should have a bearing zerk, and the driveshaft universe was staring at you….but I know you got them later!…cool video!
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 11 ай бұрын
That’s traveler HD grease, it might look green on camera but it’s infact black/grey. the bearings on this entire machine are non serviceable sealed bearings. There is no grease point for them. There is 1 zerk on the driveshaft ujoint and driveshaft slip yoke.

For the good of us all, lets not use the word stretch, the chain gets longer when the links and pins wear. No metal is made bigger or longer.

I was saying to myself, "Why don't you lube that chain up before installing it" the you said you were going to lube it up with "everybody's favorite lube, WD40" . WOW ,you know better than that, WD40 is not a lubricant. You should have submerged that chain in oil for 24 hours, drip dry and install it. Then, lubricate it periodically from then on.
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 11 ай бұрын
WD is better than nothing that’s for sure, however I never considered submerging it in oil prior to install, I’ve never heard of doing that. But I’ll be sure to get some oil on it asap
