@@loadedorygun It's pretty darn sad but alot of artists can write about high ideals and really stink at life. John Lennon and Yoko Ono eere on yhe Mike Douglass show and they randomly called people to say they loved them. Meanwhile Julian is a young boy being ignored by his dad and later on after John dies Yoko Ono sold Julian his dad's things. He needed to borrow money. She should have given them to him.

I don’t know where you live, but I live in Texas and every time I play any song by Denver on my guitar at the VFW it becomes a sing along. So I’m in a hotel in Glasgow in 2017 waiting for my brother in law and sister to come down to eat breakfast. There is a guitar in the lobby and I start playing Denver, not singing just playing it. Before long I had two staff members, and a family from Belgium all singing the exact words of the song, “Country road, take me back, to the place I belong, West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country road. John Denver must not be too underrated because I played a Garth Brooks (The Dance) after this and none of them knew it, and not to take anything away from Mr. Brooks (it could always be my guitar skills) they shuffled off to breakfast, well all except the six year old that was fascinated with the guitar which had to be taken from him by staff when I put it down and went to breakfast with my family.

Underrated? Maybe today, now that he's been dead for over 20 years, people under 30 don't realize how immensely popular he was or how many of his songs were covered by other artists, but back in the day he couldn't have been more rated.

I am old enough to remember seeing that performance the first time it aired back in the late summer of '72, late on a Friday night, thankful that the first week of HS Freshman Football practice was finally over! I was absolutely blown away. As a rock and roll fan (Beatles, Stones Zep, Purple, early Elton, etc.), I had been unfamiliar with John Denver, although he was about to explode on the music scene with "Rocky Mountain High." This performance that night made me a fan and true believer. Sadly, all four of the performers on that stage (John, Cass, Dick Kniss-bass, and Mike Taylor-6 string guitar) are all now deceased, but what a treasure they left us.

Whenever I'm down or feeling sad, I put on the headphones, cue up John Denver, close my eyes and my troubles just melt away in the beautiful music. Adding Cass Elliot's angelic voice is sonic nirvana. No question that music was pure in these days- I cannot imagine any radio station today promoting two artists harmonizing so perfectly to the sound of a couple of acoustic guitars and a stand up bass. I miss this so much.

Cass Elliot had a great song called 'It's getting better', & I always said, if I was ever to marry again, that it would be 'our song'!! 😍

Don’t think John and Mama ever did a studio version of this. But this is a beautiful rendition. The studio version you heard was probably the Peter, Paul and Mary version.

Jamel... This song will always make me remember that movie “Armageddon” & the scene where Ben Affleck lifts up his woman (Liv Tyler) as they’re about to launch into space & he starts singing it, joined shortly after by the late Michael Clarke Duncan (remember him in “The Green Mile”?) & Steve Buscemi in hilarious fashion 😂😂😂. This was one hell of a “Throwback” mate 🇦🇺✊️😁🇦🇺. INCREDIBLE 👏👏👏👏

This is a very famous folk song. John Denver, like Cass Elliott, started out singing in a folk group. Later on they both became pop stars. Just like Bob Dylan. So many started as folk singers, and crossed over to pop and rock, where the money was.
