John rarely gets the recognition he deserves as a singer, songwriter, guitar player and performer. He excels in all these and I sorely miss him. Thank you John!

One of the best song he sang. Here's what he said in one verse, "he will take the dreams of everyone to heaven to find an answer there." That is so beautiful written. I grew up in the 70's - 90's listening to John Denver's song it is so touching. Even today it still does. Thanks for sharing.

Very underrated singer songwriter, never really got the recognition he deserved, every song he wrote had a meaning and 50 years after Annie’s song they still play it in discos. A genius.

Saw John live in 1986 at 5 concerts including NEC and The Albert Hall.....I don't think the world really appreciated how good he was?.....his voice, his guitar and his composing.I can't help but wonder what songs and melodies we will never hear since we lost him...does anyone else seem to sing his songs to themselves everyday or is it just me!?..

I had been a casual JD fan until January 14, 2006. That’s the day I brought home the four-disc Country Roads Collection from the library. Heard this song and thought “Where did that voice come from?” What followed was collecting almost every album he ever made, buying a guitar (just a so-so player), buying every live DVD, plus The Christmas Gift and Foxfire movies he made. Visited Colorado twice, including Aspen and the John Denver Memorial. I was hooked and still listen to his music today. R.I.P., JD. I hope that your dream of flying up to the heavens came true. ❤️

This song is one of my favourite John Denver compositions. I say this because the man was a genius in my opinion. He really understood how to put across a simple lyric that gave so much impact, and his melodies were amazing. If he had lived I am sure he would have written so many more wonderful songs...I find him inspirational and one of the best songwriters of all time.

The week of John Denver's death was the same week that my choir group had a performance. The choir director had chosen me to perform a solo on that concert. I chose this song because it has a very big impact on me, for being a big John Denver fan, a big supporter of NASA and for being an astronomer. This is the song that got me through my the Challenger exploded on that day and when I have learned that my mentor, john Denver, died. To the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger and to my mentor, may explore the universe in peace. God bless you all!

This man is an inspiration to all wish to succeed in life, we are all what we want to be, John was all I ever wanted to be, a man with a dream to save the earth from the fools that want to destroy it. John gave me the will to do better, I wept deeply when he died, a true loss to mankind and a voice that will always be remembered. God bless you John, go and sing to the angels with your incredible voice, Maybe we will meet one day, until then, God bless you always... Keith.

After watching so many stories of John was tellinghow he involved in space program. It was understandable how much he loved to fly and showed respect to his heroes. He was one of the candidates in the citizen space program. Could not find another better singer than him to pay tribute for all the astronauts, the past the present and beyond. Thanks for sharing the video.💜

Something strange happened to me the day he died. I went fishing prior to going to work.Once I was done fishing I got in my truck and went down the road across from the river to drink coffee and chill at the river before going to work. I had a few cassette tapes on my dash. When I went down the hill the cassette tape of John Denvers Greatest Hits slid off the dash onto the floor. I had been down this hill tons of times. When I got home my wife gave me a hug and told me John had died in a airplane accident. I never forgot that. I love John Denver not only for his music but for his care and work keeping the environment clean and away from Corporate Giants..

After hearing about the Challenger disaster and watching on the local news...Days later I heard this song from John Denver... And at times I had sleepless nights off and on feeling broken hearted 💔 about the seven astronauts on board who lives were cut short.Rest In Peace and journey to skies of the heavens.

Probably one of the greatest live performances of all time. How he got through the entire song without faltering is something of a mystery as that song and performance is so full of emotion.

Oh! Always loved the late, great John Denver. Of all his songs this one gets me the most. A musical genius with a truly amazing voice. I remember the shuttle disaster and the day John died as if it were yesterday. Listening to this song again makes me wish I could turn back the clock so they (the astronauts) and John would be with us still. RIP to John and the seven astronauts. You all live on within those you left behind.

Such a song of tribute to the 7 souls lost on that beautiful sunny morning so long ago. He wrote such beautiful songs with so much meaning. A true musical genius who along with the 7 astronauts he praised in verse, left us far too soon. I think this song hit home to John as he was an avid pilot himself and they all fell just short of reaching for the stars.

John Denver died in a plane crash on October 12, 1997 in Monteray Bay in California. He was piloting an experimental aircraft he had just purchased. The cause was while attempting to switch the fuel tanks (using an ill-positioned switch in the plane) his foot activated the roll controls of the plane and put it into a dive he could not pull out of (that was the conclusion of the NTSB investigation). You can find the full report of the accident on the NTSB website.

JD not going into space for the US had NOTHING to do with failing a medical exam. John worked hard to establish the "Citizen in Space" program, was a finalist for the mission, but they decided to send a teacher vs a singer. I am 99.9% sure he passed all Nasa requirements. As many may recall JD almost went with the Russian program, but his 2nd wife was pregant and he didn't want to leave her so he chose to stop that route to space. Very sadly we lost him anyway.
