Berlino ovest 26 giugno 1963 I am proud to come to this city as the guest of your distinguished Mayor, who has symbolized throughout the world the fighting spirit of West Berlin. And I am proud -- And I am proud to visit the Federal Republic with your distinguished Chancellor who for so many years has committed Germany to democracy and freedom and progress, and to come here in the company of my fellow American, General Clay, who -- who has been in this city during its great moments of crisis and will come again if ever needed. Two thousand years ago -- Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was civis Romanus sum.1 Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is "Ich bin ein Berliner." (I appreciate my interpreter translating my German.) There are many people in the world who really don't understand, or say they don't, what is the great issue between the free world and the Communist world. Let them come to Berlin. There are some who say -- There are some who say that communism is the wave of the future. Let them come to Berlin. And there are some who say, in Europe and elsewhere, we can work with the Communists. Let them come to Berlin. And there are even a few who say that it is true that communism is an evil system, but it permits us to make economic progress. Lass' sie nach Berlin kommen. Let them come to Berlin. Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect. But we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in -- to prevent them from leaving us. I want to say on behalf of my countrymen who live many miles away on the other side of the Atlantic, who are far distant from you, that they take the greatest pride, that they have been able to share with you, even from a distance, the story of the last 18 years. I know of no town, no city, that has been besieged for 18 years that still lives with the vitality and the force, and the hope, and the determination of the city of West Berlin. While the wall is the most obvious and vivid demonstration of the failures of the Communist system -- for all the world to see -- we take no satisfaction in it; for it is, as your Mayor has said, an offense not only against history but an offense against humanity, separating families, dividing husbands and wives and brothers and sisters, and dividing a people who wish to be joined together. What is -- What is true of this city is true of Germany: Real, lasting peace in Europe can never be assured as long as one German out of four is denied the elementary right of free men, and that is to make a free choice. In 18 years of peace and good faith, this generation of Germans has earned the right to be free, including the right to unite their families and their nation in lasting peace, with good will to all people. You live in a defended island of freedom, but your life is part of the main. So let me ask you, as I close, to lift your eyes beyond the dangers of today, to the hopes of tomorrow, beyond the freedom merely of this city of Berlin, or your country of Germany, to the advance of freedom everywhere, beyond the wall to the day of peace with justice, beyond yourselves and ourselves to all mankind. Freedom is indivisible, and when one man is enslaved, all are not free. When all are free, then we look -- can look forward to that day when this city will be joined as one and this country and this great Continent of Europe in a peaceful and hopeful globe. When that day finally comes, as it will, the people of West Berlin can take sober satisfaction in the fact that they were in the front lines for almost two decades. All -- All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. And, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words -- "Ich bin ein Berliner."

Your theory has some compelling elements to it, but just doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. I know I have a masters degree in American history and have been studying the assassination for over 40 years. You must keep in mind Ronnie the vast majority of the “facts” you’ve used to come to your conclusion are patently false. Born out of wild conjecture and urban myths. I live in Dallas and give lectures on the assassination. If you REALLY want to know what happened that day read “Reclaiming History The assassination of John F Kennedy” by the greatest prosecutor this country has ever produced, Vincent Bugliosi. He put Manson away in the longest trial in American history. He spent the last 20 years of his life re-opening the Kennedy assassination and wrote the DEFINITIVE investigation on it. So many clear and stunning facts about the case have gotten lost in history. ANYONE fascinated and interested in getting to the bottom of what happened that day MUST read this book before coming to their final conclusion. God bless and have a fascinating journey 👍

@@danielevans9379 No you’re absolutely wrong. I’ve researched this for years and in fact I was raised in Oklahoma and knew people who worked and danced for Jack Ruby and these beautiful ladys weren’t myths lol. They were real. The gangsters Butch Stalcup And Tony Catering were very much real too. Tony Papus, the Losers Club in Dallas? Huh? By you siting Bugliosi you just lost all credibility, just because he prosecuted the infamous Charles Manson? A drunk monkey could have won that case lol. Susan Adkins admitted it? I’ve been in show business all my life and being famous doesn’t mean you know anything or are good. No the Kennedys, assassinations, both of them were a vast conspiracy by the military industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about in his farewell address. Ike knew more than anyone else. @@ronniebishop2496 With all due respect brother you are in over your head. Bugliosi had to PROVE that Manson had the kind of control over these people to get them to MURDER for him. Remember Manson didn’t kill any of the 7 Tate-Labianca victims. The vast majority of the legal community were certain Manson would walk. Bigliosi is a brilliant investigator and legal mind. You are too invested in what you think to open your mind and that’s ok I talk to people like yourself daily. Ronnie there were less than 15 individuals involved in the Watergate scandal that took down an entire administration and they couldn’t keep that a secret for even 6 months. Your theory would have to have involved many hundreds of people. It is pure fantasy to even entertain the idea that not even ONE credible person on their death bed would have given the entire plot in detail long ago. By now we would have IRREFUTABLE evidence, not just “theories.” I’m talking about hard evidence that would hold up in a court of law. Your theory flys in the face of everything we know about human beings. THEY CANNOT KEEP THEIR MOUTH SHUT. The Manhattan project was the most secretive operation mankind has ever conducted and they couldn’t keep THAT a secret. Nuff said.

zoopry> he was referring to being in berlin He wasn't referring to being _in_ Berlin; otherwise he would have said _im Berlin_ not _ein Berliner_ . Besides, it would be pointless to say he was in Berlin, they could see that. He was relating to the citizens.

I still can't understand how anybody could take the life of someone who made everybody feel so good inspiring hope for millions of people for a better life. His shocking death grieved and anguished the world with one or two exceptions like the pro-bigotted southern USA.

3:00 there are now some who say authoritarianism is the wave of the future but democracy shall prevail!! When comparing the U.S. and China there are list now that put democracy as a con not a pro for the U.S. but I’m rather optimistic about our system! It’s transparency and inclusiveness will lead us ahead!!

Democracy is the ONLY option for America or else it will fall apart in civil war. China has NOT shown any good examples whatsoever. They did show examples in Maos Great Leap Forward and Tiananman Square Massacre. China has ALWAYS lied to the world about how successful they are. And people like you keep falling for the same propaganda over and over. They're basically showing you a stack of $1.00 bills covered by a $100 bill to make you think it's a stack of $100 bills.

• 3:34 - This just shows how contextual and ambiguous language can be. I have yet to see a single language that is flawless. :-\ • Another problem is that the difference between masculine and feminine forms of many German nouns (-e vs -er) are almost indistinguishable when spoken, especially by foreigners, so he could very easily have said he is a female citizen of Berlin. But he didn't; it's pretty clear (whether intentional or not) that he said he's a male citizen of Berlin. 👍
@TheSt7909
@TheSt7909 Жыл бұрын
Female citizen (Berlinerin) is far from indistinguishable from male citizen (Berliner). Also e and er are not ambiguous because er clearly sounds like “ah” and not “eh”.
