How many kids would watch NFL films then go out and play mud football in the snow and rain, it was ever about winning or losing, it was who got the muddiest. Those days are priceless 😢

Yep, I was one of those kids. I miss the NFL of the 70's. It was a good time to be a kid.

Mud was great but the snow was better! Winter jackets gave more padding for tackling and snow softer landing.

The Greatest Era of NFL Football in history! John Facenda's voice...the music..haunting. This make me want to cry thinking how much I loved watching NFL Films as a small kid in 1971 at age 8. I would go outside after the show in the cold and play football in a field near my home with my buddies and have this music playing in my head.

I grew up watching NFL films and watching Facenda on Philly's TV stations since I lived in Philly. His voice is unmatched. Kallas was close no doubt but I still miss the old NFL films. You cannot stream them or pay to download them anywhere.
@@raclee40, The League has long since sought to erase evidence of its past when unfettered mayhem was in play, with no thought of its consequences.

Takes me back to weekend mornings as a kid lounging around the living room with my father and brother. Belly’s full of bacon and eggs while watching NFL film classics. John Facenda’s voice and narration style was perfect with these films
Why this man isn't in the Hall of Fame amazes me. John Facenda did more for the game of football than most players in the Hall of Fame.

The NFL just isn't the same without the voice of John Facenda, the music of Sam Spence, and the films of Ed and Steve Sable.

I remember watching Saturday night and acting out the replays in slow motion in the den with my brothers. John Facendas voice was so inspirational and the game was pure art to us. And i remember the Heidi Bowl. Best of times!

John Facenda was a Philly newscaster in those days and he just happened to own land/property in my hometown in South Jersey. My mom worked in the tax office and John called the office one day for some information. She's the one who answered the phone and she said it was surreal to be talking to the Voice of God :)

Mr. Facenda and another great voice Jack Whitaker co-owned a restaurant/bowling alley in Pennsylvania at that time (I believe it still exists under different management)

John Facenda's storytelling made me fall in love with the NFL. You could listen to him read the ingredients of a cereal box and you would be captivated and on the edge of your seat.

As someone who was born in the mid 60's and played some football myself it saddens me to realize that this era of toughness in the NFL is long gone. I've grown weary with the tired arguments that today's players are bigger, faster, stronger, etc. None of those qualities has anything to do with mental & physical toughness, which these men had in spades. Heavy hitters like Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert, Deacon Jones, etc. would never be accepted in today's weak & woke NFL culture. Say what you will but pro football is today a mere shadow of it's former self.

Was a kid in the 60s...a Ram household. I almost became a Charger fan because of their uniforms (Rams' blue/white was boring), and Hadl's offence. He wore #21, which i thought was cool, different.

Due to the way the AFL playoffs were set up in 1968 the Raiders had to go to New York for the AFL championship game even though they had a better record than the Jets (12-2 vs 11-3) and had beaten them in the "Heidi Bowl" The championship game alternated each year between the East and West and unfortunately for the Raiders it was to be held in the East that year

Same with the NFL. That's why the undefeated Dolphins had to play on the road in Pittsburgh for the NFC championship game. It was on a rotation basis.
