They are old friends with a lot in common. They're a similar age and both born in England but raised in Australia. Both with careers that began to bloom in Melbourne. Both have been in and out of fashion. They have sung together for charity quite often. John has been WAY luckier in love. Melbourne hearts are with them both. Olivia has been living with stage 4 cancer for a few years now. Bless her heart.

At that time Olivia had already started her journey with breast cancer. Mine was in 1997 and I met her and she shook my hand. We both wished each other good luck. My male friends were extra caring towards me then, just as John was towards Olivia. I think that had a lot to do with the intimacy that you saw between them here.

@@breeanaflannery great to hear that John did that for you and more so for a 8 year old...He is the perfect example of a great man. I've met him too a couple of times through being a musician and myself doing Carpentry/Joinery work at studios around Sydney back in the late 80's and 90's and one time at studios 301 John and band were rehearsing and I was having a lunch break listening. They had a break and John came over to me and we spoke. He asked me about carpentry stuff and him being a plumber...well we had that building connection. I spoke about being a musician and he said "Come and listen to rehearsal if you want too" I said "UMMM yeah" To be 3 metres away from John singing and hearing the sheer power and control of his voice beyond the PA is something I'll never forget. It was so empowering and overwhelming. What we see from John on tele and in concert is exactly the same thing I saw in him in person. As you said...he's just down to earth and genuine. Thats one of the main things I got from John. Good on him for singing Happy Birthday and you had cake too 👍👍🔨🥁🇦🇺

While Australia is huge land size wise....it is small population wise and has a closer knit community with singers and celebrities...this has the effect of many of them knowing each other as actual friends as opposed to the US where there are more famous people and while many may know of or have seen other celebs, don't know or are not friends with eachother. It's just a closer knit community.

The acting and this kiss at the end is very typical of their era, Olivia always kisses friends on the lips. If you watch Olivia duet with Andy Gibb and Cliff Richard she does the same thing, in the 70's they tended to do that intense eye contact and acting the song out was a part of it.

So happy to be listening again to these many artist through your ears! One thing stands out too, every time- how the backing bands and orchestras are world class! Which is funny to look back on. Many USA music bigs used to really run us down. They would land with huge band numbers and then get blown away by what they heard. Local music people ( including myself) fought long hours to put a quota in place. The put-downs were horrible. But it was Frank Sinatra in his older tours, who really started everything rolling. He could not believe it and ironically, took musicians back to the States with him! He raved on air and slowly our great music standard was trusted. Every track you’re playing is so world standard I think. So great to follow your site❣️Love how you “get” how good our land down under was mskin’ great legends!

How she kept a straight face with those two unrepentent crack-ups is quite remarkable !! since watching your reactions I appreciate John even more. I never realised his diction in each & every song is truly remarkable. I was a latecomer as a John Farnham fan. I was a teenager when he released "Sadie" & I was definitely not a fan of that. then in the late 80's when he released the 'Chain Reaction' album & a friend took (dragged) me along to his concert. I could not believe his performance was so good, he is a great singer & performer. Have you done a "Noiseworks" (singer Jon Stevens) reaction . they are from NZ however we will also claim them Aussies. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYLWiZ5pd5J_fac

Like John, Olivia was born in England and discovered young. She came to Australia and became beloved by everyone. Had 5 US Number One songs and won 4 Grammys. She's now recognised with the UK's top honour as Dame Olivia Newton-John in honour of her musical achievements and environmental activism. These two have a 4 decades long friendship and great respect for each other.

At the time of this concert, they'd been friends for over 57 years. John was 57 and Olivia, who is 1 year older than John was 58. They've both acted, too. They're experienced singers who should know how to capture the mood of the song and act accordingly. John has always been very much in love with his wife 'jilly'. People of my/their age group were brought up to kiss friends and family on the lips, so it's not unusual given the mood of this song for them to do that. It wasn't passionate or a 'tonguey'.

Olivia Newton-John's voice can be heard in JAWS during the scene in which poor little Alex Kintner is taken by the shark. In the film she is on the radio singing a cover of the Peter Allen song "I Honestly Love You" which was a big hit for her around the world. She has a Country music background (singles include "If Not For You", "Let Me Be There", "Banks of the Ohio", "Take Me Home Country Roads") but moved more fully into pop after GREASE in 1978 and XANADU in 1980 before releasing her album Physical in 1981. Farnham comes out of the vaudevillian traditions of music theatre and cabaret, which is one of the reasons why he is a natural easygoing entertainer: years and years of practice performing for tough crowds going back to the 1960s.

Her version of I Honestly Love You is the original. Peter Allen allowed her to record and release it first. He recorded his version after hers had already hit number one.😊

The touch on the shoulder John gave Olivia at 6 minutes 36 seconds in ......was for me a visual that was so appropriate and moving. I hate saying this,BUT Imho, this isn’t even them at their very best. In their primes, this would have been a TEN. Here I give them an 8.75. Still an amazing and gut wrenching performance. ONJs “hopelessly devoted” kills me to this day. I miss her so much. The 2 of these incredible people made this world a better place. And amazing reaction.

Please don't worry about the pointing. I, when traveling south ease Asia was told not to point at people. Background : when someone would be chosen out of a group, to be shot dead with a rifle (during the Vietnam War). They were pointed at (obviously) and unfortunately it's still a cultural no-no. So don't worry our friend. Hugs. It's 2022.🌈❤️

Olivia Newton-John ~ 60s/70s kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHi8XqOqpNuEo5o This 4 minute clip shows her at the beginning in black and white in the 1960s in Australia singing. She was born in 1948 and John was born in 1949. She came out at 3 years of age from England and ended up in Melbourne, Victoria. He came out at 10 years of age in 1959 and ended up in Melbourne, Victoria. Both worked on Australian TV before Olivia won a talent contest which took her back to England and she worked with Cliff Richard for a while there before eventually working in America as a country and western singer.

Ok,so to answer your question about chemistry etc. John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John were both involved in the Australian music scene from young adults. They are both dedicated vocalists who understand lyrics and story telling through song, they brought the emotion needed to the performance. John has been happily married to the same woman, Jill, since 1973. BTW, so glad others outside of Australia get the gooseys when they listen to John .
