Yep, I remember when I was at the Raffles Hotel 🏨 Perth, up on the dance floor when Sherbet were on tour in WA, 1970s. Daryl and the band were a fave of mine, I still have their vinyls. I saw Barnsey at Edgely Entertainment Centre in Perth in the 80s. And saw Farnsey performing too when JC Superstar was live as well. Saw so many bands, etc, in the 70s, 80s... visiting from overseas, too many to count. Amazing times.

I really don't understand how these GREAT singers never got broader recognition outside of Australia/NZ. They have the chops of Freddie Mercury, Dio, etc, many times over.
@markmark5269 Жыл бұрын
Because they're not that great, but it seems to be Australian law that you can't say a bad thing about John "The Screech" Farnham, but the LRB record sales, or lack of them, told the true story. Lucky to get a couple of brilliant songs on Whispering Jack that would have been hits for anyone, but if you're honest, and you clearly won't be, he has had middle of the road success in his career otherwise. Capitol Records did NOT want Farnham as LRB's singer. Barnes is just a screamer, just happens that the music was written specifically for his voice.
@billhutcherson758 Жыл бұрын
Farnham was a phenomenal vocalist for the genre. I’ll grant you that his material was typically not that great but vocally he was amazing. I like Barnes pretty well but I will agree with you on your assessment of him.

1. Jukebox hero. Foreigner I grew up in Australia as a gen X, and in 1984 being fourteen, whilst staying over at my parents' friends place, she said I could listen to her vinyl collection. When I put on Foreigner's "4" album I was totally blown away! Not only by the whole album but when I first heard the drum beat, beating like my own heart had been since starting on this spontaneous adventure of discovery, and then hearing the haunting way Lou Gramm comes in at the beginning of jukebox hero I knew my life would never be the same again. 2. When the war is over. Cold Chisel. On that same fateful day I played Cold Chisel's ( a 70's to early 80's Australian rock band) "Last stand" album. When I heard Ian moss's soulful voice and then Jimmy Barnes's power coming in later on, I knew that this band was mine. Sadly, Cold Chisel had broken up 2 years before. Even though using all my pocket money from doing odd jobs around the neighbourhood and delivering junk mail I vowed to mysel I would buy every album they had produced prior. 3. Driving wheels. Jimmy Barnes After Cold Chisels split up, Jimmy Barnes produced a few great solo albums like "Working class man" and Bodyswerve, but in 1987 he came out with the hit "Driving wheels" on the freight train heart album. As soon ass I heard Mark Lizotte AkA (Johnny Diesel) hit those chords at the start the song, it sent shivers down my spine, and the pure power of Jimmy Barnes voice I was gone. Going to see the concert for this album sitting in my seat as the crowd's noise became a hush, through the ddarkness came the piercing chords of Driving wheels and I will never forget that feeling.

A wonderful memory of my early teens, seeing Cold Chisel with Jimmy Barnes. Attending the dancehall at St Patrick's Church , seeing John in his Johnny day's. The highlight of my life, Going to a John Farnham concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, at the Melbourne Tennis Centre. I will remember that experience, for the rest of my life. Amazing !!! St Patrick's Church, Ballarat.

I was there, and the others that followed! No-one does it better in concert! It took an international act, P!nk, to take his record off him in 2009 for the number of concerts at Rod Laver Arena. I wonder if she will still pull crowds like JF does when she is 70!! 😘💕

@@Katrinagaming-en1os don't be. Anyone could do it. John Farnham likes shaking hands with his fans while he is singing. Jimmy Barnes you will need to be lucky he comes to your town for a book signing. He came to my town and I was able to get close to him because I was a media representative from the radio station.

When the rest of the world says Australia is behind the times, show them this video and say: "Here's proof that Australia is ahead of its time, we had Uber Eats in the 1980's"

Back in the day when Australian of the Year went to people who were outstanding instead of going to people with an agenda.
