I've ALWAYS had a thing about the -monger suffix. I remember when I was a kid being in the fishmongers and also hearing about an ironmongers and wondering what other mongers there were and why there weren't more. Why were some things monged and not others. What was to mong. And what on earth is a coster? What's more 'monger' is one of those few job titles that are identical with their verb, despite ending in -er. I.e. a monger mongers, doesn't actually mong. The other one I can think of is broker - a broker doesn't broke, he/she brokers. WHY????
