When this happened I worked with a Jewish woman who previously worked with him for many years. She said alcohol always made him rude and that he'd say the most disgusting things if he ever felt attacked by someone. However, when sober he was a completely different person - far more accepting of racial and religious minorities than anyone she worked with in Paris. She was very saddened by what happened and insisted he was not an antisemite, just an awful drunk. I trust her.

I think he deserves a 2nd chance. We all make mistakes in our lives doesn’t excuse what we did wrong sometimes external forces whether it be in Galliano case the importance of delivering beautiful designs for a major fashion label like when he was at Dior, in my opinion Galliano was the best designer in the brands history next to Christian Dior. What he did with Dior in the 90’s and early 2000’s was pure brilliance. I’m sure the pressure of releasing what is it maybe 6 collections in a year he may have had personal demons he was fighting and turned to alcohol and pills. In his disease he said some horrific things he was fired from Dior. He went to rehab and has been sober since and gave his apologies.

With respect I don't agree. I think we are all responsible for what we say and do when under the influence. However, it doesn't mean this is a true representation of one's soul. No excuses for him as he was rightly punished but often abusing substances is an indicator of self hate and what quicker way to self destruct than to hate on everyone publicly. Regardless, if a racist member of a hate group can reform so can he who uttered these heinous words, but did he act on them? I believe in redemption, second chances after a person has been punished and has shown himself to be penitent.

He wasn't fired just like that. First a shorter video was released and he claimed the women were harassing him and making homophobic comments and tried to spin it. There was some traction on this with articles framing him as a possible victim. Then they released a longer video that proved he was full of BS. Natalie Portman who was the face of Dior at the time AND Jewish, made a personal video condemning the behavior, and wishing to distance herself from the brand moving forward. I think that was the last straw, but all of the second part happened very quickly still relaxing from the first bit, plus the worse parts in the longer video. I always wondered if the holding back the entire video was deliberate, just give enough to try and spin someway and then prove he was a liar as well as hateful. I worked in the fashion industry for years around that time. And this was another example that made me wonder what I was doing there. Galliano, McQueen, Lagerfeld, Mugler, people at the top of their game, all of them unhappy. All made beautiful things, and at the time some of the most famous beautiful things, but all are clearly miserable, as well as lonely and self-destructive.

@@Lioness_UTV Not sure who your referring to here but I didn't read anything in these comments that have condemned a man to the shadows at all. Maybe you have read a bit too much between the lines, eh? Yes what John said was beyond terrible and he's paid the price for this, however, we only see what John says, not what may or may not have been said to him. Did the people who filmed him first provoke him. They may have made an equally inflammatory slur against him being gay. Without seeing the whole scenario, rather than the edited section, we must be careful with our judgement. I'm not defending John but pointing out that this the film in the Paris bar is one part of a perhaps a larger narrative.

In fairness the fashion world does love Hitler. Hugo Boss designed for the Nazis, and Coco Channel got through the war hating on Jews and screwing Nazis. I think that's far worse, considering neither had a drugs problem.

I hate that regardless how much other ish can happen, how much ppl dont let you forget, even after you change your life around. Totally relevant if this man was still a drunk, but when you punctuate his previous actions with he turned himself around, it its like why are we talking about it???? Whats being gained?? He learned from his lessons and does not drink. Addicts cannot be trusted when they are under the influence.

For me, two things can be true. John Galliano is a genius who gave something to fashion that has been rarely seen again. However, he was also a horrible racist and antisemite who’s addictions brought out his nasty inner self. Being that it’s been over a decade since that incident, he’s hopefully gotten help and changed his views greatly. He should still be acknowledged for his work, and held accountable for his words.

K- Sadly he may be racist .BUT he is a HIGH FASHION GENIUS! He is creating the fantasy, emotion, storytelling, and his stuff still sells like hot cakes now at Margiela. This is way old news Kids, he got help. He no longer parades around drunk. Hes become more private and made time for his personal life , that witch he did not have at Dior lord knows how overworked hes was.. The clothing is shown in museums for Dior still today. Racism is around us NOW more than ever. Dont buy the clothes he makes but from artistic and creativity stand Watch his shows, creativity shouldn't be shunned. Renzo knew what dior lost and scooped him up for MMM. someones trash is someones treasure.. He still here and doubt hes going anywhere unless he dies.. XOXO

Being sober this long takes a lot of effort. I don’t know if he deserves a second chance. Being famous again might actually hurt his sobriety. But he is a genius. I don’t even like fashion but I remember his designs from the 90’s. They were always amazing.

No. People are ALWAYS remorseful & apologetic AFTER the Fact. When they've Realized (Or been Told) the Damage &Pain of Their actions TO THEMSELVES.... THEN They are Sorry. Too Late Tho.

Being an addict doesn’t make you a racist. I don’t forgive the nazis and I don’t forgive galliano either, regardless of his talent. No second chance imo.

We're all responsible for our behaviour, sober or drunk or under the influence of drugs. And if not held in check power and wealth can corrupt and make people think they can get away with bad behavior...that is until someone films them
