John played at a club I owned named Smile Chicago in the early 70's. After the end of the night, he and some musician buddies that stopped by sat around around until 4:30 in the morning jamming at the club. What a thrill. BTY - between shows he would sit in the green room lit up with people coming and going and playing music with him. Wonderful musician and person.

Am I revealing my age when I say I have loved this ever since I bought the album, not long after its release, as a young banjo player in Pennsylvania? Boy I sure do miss Johnny H. Good to hear this tonight. Thanks.

I was kayaking on Bull Creek near Forsyth Missouri in 2004 when I first heard John Hartford. The album was "Natural to be Gone" and it was a life changing experience. Thanks Jarret!

As a young pot head in the 70's, nothing put a bigger smile on my face than anything performed by this man. I'm barely getting through this post...Thanks John and R.I.P.

Saw John play outdoors at an Indian reservation in Wisconsin in 1980. Amplified plywood board and the first wireless mic I ever saw. Played the fiddle and walked around the amphitheatre with people following him like the pied piper. Earlier in the day my buddy locked his keys in the car. We knocked on a nearby trailer door and John lent us a coat hanger!

I like the graininess of the photo, looks like the sky is shimmering and his white shirt as well. My friends older brother introduced JH to him and my friend then played the album for our gang. Can't remember the name of the album, it was the one with the guy (JH?) wearing the flying goggles and the beard. We all listed to that album for a long time. Eventually we all went to check him out in Toronto when he game and played this great out door location. Held and copy of the vinyl album up.
