I had to leave this match at 14-10 and never saw the end. Big Williams fan at the time as I still am. Easy to see why when you see how he played from 15-11. Thanks for putting this up. One more of his I've been dying to see was a clearance he made in his Crucible Curse match against Joe Swail in 2001, I think to pull back to 12-11. It was similar to but even better than Alex Higgins break in 82 against Jimmy, but wasn't remembered because Swail won the next frame. Keep an eye out for it because I'd love to see it again!

Can see a few people wondering why frame 30 ended despite William's foul on the final black. The reason is that Williams won the frame when he potted the pink. The frame is over when the striker is over 7 points in front with just the black remaining. The striker can choose to play on if they want to finish a high break, make a psychological point to their opponent, play an exhibition shot, whatever it may be. But the frame ended as a contest when the pink sank. It's basically the opposite outcome of when someone wins a frame on the pink and leaves their cue on the table/returns to their chair/leaves the arena instead of playing a shot on the black.

@Neto8084 жыл бұрын
The frame automatically ends when the black ball is potted or fouled. Higgins was awarded 7 points and the frame came to an end. The only exception is if there's a tie in points, then there's a respotted black.

I remember watching the highlights on bbc and not knowing the end result. The fact that the highlights were scheduled to be on for so long and the fact that the match was progressing at such a slow speed made me fear that Williams had staged a huge comeback in that final session. I was sadly proved right! I'm a big fan of Williams now though. He was just a huge "Scot killer" back in those years and Hendry, followed by Higgins, were my favourite players.

I remember really wanting Williams to win in 2000 and the. Ronnie to win in 2001. I think a major potting miscalculation, resulted in him falling 6 frames behind in the final against Matthew Steven, but boy did he come roaring back in both the semi-final and final.

@Tom You're thinking of Pool. Why do you think in Snooker they often don't even take a shot when it gets to the last black. You must've seen so many times a player pots in the pink then just puts their cue on the table or shakes hands or sits back in their seat if they're already up by 8 or more points.
@ajs417 ай бұрын
@@cddb5408 I thought that was etiquette, because you can't lay a snooker with only one ball on the table, and the only way to win would be if the other player just completely failed to hit the black, and you assume a professional player wouldn't make that mistake. Pleased to be corrected.
