My Granny was midwife in Derry in 1940'/50'ss married to a policeman. She was a great supporter of civil rights and was herself a victim of having to go cap in hand to a councillor to try and get family housing.By the way they turned them down for not being in the right circles! She hated the system and told me about it as I grew up. She had a shot fired at her husband as he came home one night and it grazed her cheek but she never judged anyone and I learnt to be like her too.
