I agree and disagree. There is a prevailing evil in this day as we have seen these last 4 years especially. Jesus said that kingdom against kingdom, nation against nation, children against parents and that enemies within our own households. There are spirits at work in this matter as well, that is why discernment matters. For instance "a lying spirit" false accusers etc. Recently, two men conspired to destroy an evangelist that was living in the USA as an asylum seeker. The one man was a very wealthy powerful individual who was having an affair with a young woman. When the evangelist preach the gospel of Christ to her, she got water baptized and also filled with the spirit. He was enraged with the evangelist because she wanted to live holy and cut off the adulterous relationship, so he lost his mistress. He vow to make the evangelist pay and reached out to a youtuber to help destroy the evangelist's reputation by spreading false stories and got him arrested for 400 days with no charges, no crime and no evidence because he had connections. Finally, he was free and the truth came out, he is back to ministry. But there was a lying spirit in that wealthy man. That lying spirit had power for over 400 days.

Jesus was accused by false accusers, a betraying disciple led him into the enemies plan (though God used it for good).... the lying spirit was so powerful that it affected the disciple Simon Peter to lie three times. False accusers happen too. Look at the woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus (why didn't they bring the man?) and they accused her and had stones in their hands to kill her. Jesus said "he who is without sin, cast the first stone" and one by one in self reflection they tossed away their stones and left. Why? Because before God, none of us is innocent.

Jesus was the harshest with the Religious Leaders, rebuking them and calling them out. In contrast Jesus was compassionate showed mercy with murderers, adulters and other sinners. The church has NOT rebuked these false teachers, and have spiritually abused their congregations, when they try to correct - they were silenced by using scriptures against them. Supporting Scriptures say: 1 Timothy 5:19-20 'Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others. Matthew 7:15-20 15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Good question! I’ve been reading about Rees Howells life and reading his book. He mentions that after the Welsh Revival ( a whole nation was saved) there was much backsliding and falling away due to not enough mature believers to guide and disciple the newly converted.
