Such a great dude. He is the single biggest factor of me becoming a baseball fan. I was in seventh grade when he played for the Phillies in that 93 season with Lenny Dykstra, and Darren Daulton, Mitch Williams, Curt Schilling, etc. It was SUCH a fun season. But during the season we found out that my mom had cancer. So it kind of helped the mood a bit. But following the year, Kruk found out he had testicular cancer. So one day I’m sitting in the hospital and I see him coming down the hallway in the hospital and my jaw hit the floor. I made eye contact with him… But my dad patted my leg telling me to calm down and not make a fuss because it’s not appropriate at that point bc he was there for treatment/testing too. John saw the interaction and walked over and introduced himself. It was incredible. One of those moments you’ll never forget.

Back when I lived in South Jersey, I worked at Mt Laurel Home Depot. I was 18 working as a Lot Tech. And John Kruk here needed help loading one of those really nice French Doors. I didnt realize AT all it was him til I checked his pick up sheet and said John Kruk hahahaah. This was 7 years after the WS in 93. I got all excited and had small talk with him. When I was done loading his truck, he gave me 20.00 tip.

I recall in one of his Books, Bill James compared Bo and Kruk. He thought Bo had a ridiculous build which he damn sure did but was not that great a ballplayer while he described Kruk as being built like a sack of potatoes but was a tremendous player. I always like Kruk, he was a character.
@citizenbeeswax79853 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but bo jackson was easily on his way to being a hall of fame player. Not just great offensive stats, but also tremendous offensively with a rocket arm. How he could say Bo wasnt that good of a player makes no sense. He shouldve picked another guy with a great build who wasnt that good. Like ozzie conseco or something. Lol. Bo knew baseball!
@Icecreamforcrowtoo2 жыл бұрын
Bo Jackson is perhaps the most impressive athletic specimen I've ever seen but I could see from an analytics standpoint how he didn't measure up to guys who got on base more even if they were less flashy and awe-inspiring.
@Icecreamforcrowtoo2 жыл бұрын
I just looked up Bo's stats on baseball reference. He was no where close to having HoF numbers. His highest WAR season was in 1990. A 3.5. John Kruk had three seasons with a WAR over 4 and another season with a WAR of 3.8. Jackson's career WAR was 8.3 and Kruk's career WAR was 25.1. So I can see what Bill James was talking about in terms of Kruk being a better overall BALLPLAYER than Jackson. Much better, in fact. The numbers don't lie. Now a better ATHLETE? Of course not. But those two things aren't necessarily one in the same.

lol, too funny, they used to call players "hot dogs", now they want to know if they're in a hot dog eating contest.

John kruk is one of the best people ever. He is a good man just imagine if the world was full of John kruk. We would all be laughing a lot. And everyone would be happy. I love it that now I get to listen to John doing Phillies home games. Ohh yeah I didn't hear anything about a hot dog.
