Absolute classic MST3K episode. It definitely is a surprisingly sleazy and violent movie for its time

A correction. The scene in which one surgeon cuts another's hand so he can save the patient is from "X - The Man with X-Ray Eyes," NOT "The Brain That Wouldn't Die." (Ray Milland and John Hoyt play doctors in the scene described.) In this movie the older Dr. Cortner gives up after the patient stops breathing. His son finds a way to revive the patient's heart, though possibly paralyzing him in the process.

Ahead (no pun intended) of it's time. An arm torn off with blood smeared across the room and a chunk of flesh is bitten out of the surgeon and then thrown onto the floor. Good stuff!

Well then, now I know where Frank Henenlotter got his idea for Frankenhooker.

When I saw this as a kid the brief but bloody violence really freaked me out. It figures it's not a studio movie--the arm coming off? The neck bite? Yuck.

patchchrist - Not sure about that, but Steve Martin and Carl Reiner most definitely used the idea for “The Man with Two Brains”. The plot is nearly identical.

This was good stuff when we were young teens watching it on the late show back in 1970. There's even a scene of 2 young women wrestling around in their exotic undergarments. A sleazy and violent movie for it's day, we enjoyed the hell out of it.

I can see the "guilty pleasure" appeal of this film but the ending put me off!

Possibly the most lurid and trashy film of it's time, though there are contenders. I recently started watching "Ghost Of Dragstrip Hollow" from 1959 which features porn like double entendre dialogue. Gotta finish that one. And there's also the insane "Maniac" from way back in 1934. But "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" must be in a time capsule as testament to the fact that entertainment of those times was not all G rated as most of us once thought it was. One of the most entertaining low budget films of all time.

I was surprised in the Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow , that the parrot SWEARS!! And the one girl flirts with her dad! But I love that film and I love the girl with glasses in it! (Sanita Pelkey? I forget how to spell her name!) But Brain that Wouldn't Die is way more shocking I think for the time period. The sleaze and the gore was nuts! But of course, that just makes me love it more!! Watch "She-Demons" if you like sleaze classics!!

Nicholas Moose"She Demons" is another one of my favorites. It reminds me of those stories I saw in my father's copies of "Argosy" magazine with exciting illustrations of cruel WWII Nazi or Japanese soldiers and scantily clad women. Nostalgia on the sleazy side.

This is one of the few movies channel 11 in Los Angeles wouldn't show during the Saturday afternoon horror matinee. They only screened it after it 11 PM . If this were a Hammer film, they'd have called it "Frankenstein Created Sleaze". Playboy magazine every now and again used to have a page asking the question, "What kind of man reads Playboy?" and after getting old enough to read Playboy and watching this movie my answer was, "The kind of man who preserves his girlfriend's head in a tray and trolls the seedy parts of town looking for the perfect body for it reads Playboy."

I once saw two homeless guys having sex. Try as I might, I can not get that disgusting image out of my mind. Same goes for this movie.
