The samples used in the Stone Roses tune “Fools Gold” that John references in the video are, of course, the break from “Funky Drummer” by James Brown, but also an instrumental figure from the tune “Bra” by Cymande. And like John said, the Roses drummer Reni is playing commentary over the top of the samples.

This man has the most charmed discography ever (and I'm sure he'd admit a lot of luck/chance was involved in working with certain artists). By all accounts once the illness set in, Syd was very hard to work with. Schizophrenia's gold standard symptom is disorganized thinking, and yeah, that was syd in a nutshell. At least thats how people describe him. And I'd believe it, my best friend in high school (with whom we listened to a LOT of syd and early floyd) developed serious schizophrenia at about 17, and man it was hard to keep him on task with anything. Its a nasty illness.
@williamstreet11483 жыл бұрын
I'd still love to have worked on either "The Madcap Laughs" or "Barrett". Given the choice between working with a difficult but brilliant songwriter like Syd vs. an easier gig but a more banal artist/band, I'd probably take the more difficult but more interesting gig almost every time (unless maybe I'd done a string of difficult projects and I needed a break).
