HI Warren, John, what a great interview, when i was 15 and having just heard and bought Pink Floyd the Wall i became a massive Fan, spent many an evening hanging out and listening to them, i kind of went from listening to heavy rock and metal to exploring the multi realms of Psychedelic rock, had some great times, mind boggling times, hell even some of the most scariest times of my life, what a blast, have a great day, all the best.

The samples used in the Stone Roses tune “Fools Gold” that John references in the video are, of course, the break from “Funky Drummer” by James Brown, but also an instrumental figure from the tune “Bra” by Cymande. And like John said, the Roses drummer Reni is playing commentary over the top of the samples.

I'd give my right bollock to have been in the room working with Syd, Magazine, and at Sawmills on The Verve's first album...to say nothing of everything else he's done!

By all accounts once the illness set in, Syd was very hard to work with. Schizophrenia's gold standard symptom is disorganized thinking, and yeah, that was syd in a nutshell. At least thats how people describe him. And I'd believe it, my best friend in high school (with whom we listened to a LOT of syd and early floyd) developed serious schizophrenia at about 17, and man it was hard to keep him on task with anything. Its a nasty illness.
@williamstreet1148
@williamstreet1148 3 жыл бұрын
I'd still love to have worked on either "The Madcap Laughs" or "Barrett". Given the choice between working with a difficult but brilliant songwriter like Syd vs. an easier gig but a more banal artist/band, I'd probably take the more difficult but more interesting gig almost every time (unless maybe I'd done a string of difficult projects and I needed a break).

EDIT: Had no idea he did the La's or Fools Gold. But then, his name is on so many records who could ever keep up?! edit two: pretty sure Thom has admitted himself that seeing Buckley made him change his attitude on falsetto. edit 3: he turned down Moron 5, proof, were it needed, that the man has class. last edit i promise: there are 10 ways to be OUT in cricket. name them.
