Great music ...the deep meaning is the simple and real things in life ... the ones you love and are next to you. Human brain likes to create "magic" to cope with life. "God is a concept by which we measure our pain", is a great way to put it. Belief in God, Gods, etc. is like a medicine for headache. If you have a headache, go ahead and take it... but dont try to convince me this medicine is needed in the absence of a headache.

But it's really ironic that the man who wrote the genius song "Happiness is a Warm Gun" was shot to death by a gun. Given that earlier, John had signed his album (for his killer), the line from Working Class Hero - “but first you must learn how to smile as you kill” is the cruelest irony for me. I sincerely hope that whatever comes next, John found the peace he spent his too-short life fighting for. I’ve spent a lifetime listening to all sorts of music (eclectic taste) and while countless musicians have died prematurely, to this day, I feel a void when I listen to John Lennon. We were robbed of a brilliant mind by a nobody, it still feels surreal.

Just awful, to think that was exactly what happened. Some nothing happening waste of space wanted to be famous, and we lost a brilliant man because of it. RIP John.

I must disagree here. The raw, stripped-back arrangement was absolutely what the doctor ordered for this, John's angst-ridden confessional, as it were. Adding strings and other orchestral elements would've made the song seem saccharine and superficial, things John was trying to outright avoid on his first solo album. He would return to a fuller, more produced ambiance when he paired up with "wall of sound" architect Phil Spector on Imagine, an album that some (*myself not included) have criticized for its heavy-handed production and dominance of strings.
