yep, but now we have all this wonderful over-priced, fascist, corporate police-state technology to make us happy. odd, how, after the "left" betrayed their principles and abandoned their goals throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s, it appears the fascists still have the upper hand. you know what's weird? i just realized there's a correlation between the break-up of the beatles and the rise of global fascism. since 1970 fascism has been incrementally increasing from decade to decade. kinda makes you think, don't it?

May all the gods bless your naivity! When, in the many thousands of years of human history, has any GOD or GODDESS really ensured peace? Muslims fight against Christians and Jews; Christians fight against Muslims and Jews; Jews fight against Muslims... And all this in the name of ONE God? A GOD who only needs all these wars for his own amusement? IF THIS GOD really had the power to end wars, and if humanity's disputes weren't just entertainment for THIS ONE GOD, there would be no more wars in this world for a long time! If any god or goddess really had the power to influence human behavior, ALL of his/her followers would long ago be victors in all disputes... It is a sad truth that the more religious a person is, the more he/she loses their ability to criticize and reason!

NOBODY else used his platform for change more than John Lennon. He got KILLED for speaking out so honestly and powerfully. Haters gonna Hate but John put it out there for the world, paid the price, and still inspired millions for who he was. His Music and his person are NOT separate. Now I'm hardly one to throw the first time but I also admit I'm not the best person. John should have tried the same. He showed everybody that peace and love except his family lol. Also he was known to treat people like shit all the time. You obviously know this. But you probably choose to ignore it. And quit bringing up other artists. Completely irrelevant. We're talking about John Lennon. If anything Paul McCartney was more honest about what he was then John was. So yeah I'll say it once again. The fact that Petula Clark of all people ended up on this track speaks to the character of everybody in that room. We so readily marginalise people into groups and artists into genres when all we really ought to see are two expats making the best of what remains of the night, with friends, far away from home. There's something wonderfully platonic and human about the whole thing, and it's not the sentiment that makes you stop and think, it's the realization that we don't experience as often as we know we ought to.

He and Dick were playing in SF when we held a benefit for a fellow performer who had been shot and paralyzed and they asked to join in. All the theatre and music people in SF performed and the drama and music critics were the ushers. It was an amazing night. Tom was a great man. A fighter ahead of his time.

Yoko...what would John say in 2020 with everything happening? My dad introduced me to the Beatles...he lived through the 50's and 60's and he can't believe we're still seeing those same issues unresolved. This song brought me to tears today...

One of the best legendary songs of john lennon . I agree most relevant today. He was a futuristic, top gun song writer. His song lyrics have stood the test of time from imagine, stand by me, and give peace a chance highly incredible, celtic, imaginative and down to earth songs

Notice the "Banging" sound in the background? That was CFOX disc jockey Roger Scott actually playing on a table, to resemble a sort of drumming sound. Funny he wasn't shown in this video, considering his contribution.

9/13/20 Hi Karla ... I did not know that! Im a Boomer (b 1940 to 1957) & a former Hippie. 1967 to 1975 were mystical, magical times. I knew someome was banging on either a chair or table, but until now, either couldnt remember (drugs ..😂) or just learned *who* it was from you. What's so cool about this song, besides the still relevant message, is that there are only 3 "real" instuments used: tambourine played by ..??, lead guitar #JohnLennon & co-guitar played by the AWESOME #TommySmothers. Love seeing #TimothyLeary. ✌🤘✊✊☮☮ ☯☯

André Perry has a percussion credit on the record, and it's known that he did some vocal overdub, so perhaps he augmented Scott's table banging with a real drum as well.

John was quoted pointing out the drum overdub was necessary b/c he lost time midway thru the song.

What I find cool is that you can tell as the song progresses, the table banger transitions to a much catchier double beat. This was someone who likely wasn't over thinking it and just let his soul make the magic. This song wouldn't have been as good with a proper drum beat (or had no beat at all).
