Me and the snail billions of years in the future watching everything get devoured by ever continuing cold, every planet and civilization freezes anything left of humans has been gone for millions of years already and then we stop fighting just to watch and be frozen by the very heat death of the universe as there is no more warmth (i chose to be immortal and have a death snail chase me for the rest of my existence)

It's the year 12430, marking the end of a devastating war that left humanity practically extinct. You have fallen on your knees, clinging to a rock in an effort not to fall over. Watching over what used to be your home village, but is now a pile of debris. There you sit, deep in thought, a soft tear rolling down your cheek. Your life felt perhaps a little longer than a blink of an eye, yet you know how long you really lived for. You watched cities grow and fade away, traveled to different planets and back, got to meet other lifeforms but always preferred your own kind. All through your life you only ever experienced change, never could you hold on to something dear. You remember the countless friends that passed away, how at last you had grown so accustomed to dying that their deaths ceased to affect you anymore. You try to think of their names, their faces, but all are lost in the immeasurable heap of memories. Even your dear parents you can hardly recall. Everything at one point left your existence, and many times you had wished to leave it too. A gentle rain begins, the cold droplets splashing apart on your face. You stand still for minutes and look to your right at a puddle that has formed. In it's reflection you see what you have been fleeing from your entire life. You stand still as the snail slowly slides towards you. It is a comforting thought that through all that change there has atleast been one thing that always remained the same. The snail doesn't feel surreal, it doesn't feel frightening, you can only look at it with love. Slowly you let go of the rock and fall over. You watch the ground and can't help but kiss the earth. You stand up and hurry towards the snail. You stare at it's little eyes and realize that he hasn't come to just kill you, but rather to thank you for the purpose and lifetime you provided him. There is nothing more than the two of you staring at each other in this world of ruin. With tears streaming down your cheek you make your final step and embrace the snail, entering the eternal nothingness you both thirsted so long for.

It is 9,270,751 years in the future. I feel like I’ve explored every inch of the cosmos. No matter how far I go, the snail follows. Ever slithering closer and closer. No amount of salt slows him down. No amount of time is enough to be free from his determination. No amount of distance is enough for him to lose interest in me. Everyone I’ve ever known has long since perished. I haven’t visited Earth in eons. It likely isn’t even there anymore. I have given up on trying to meet new people. They all die before I even get to experience life alongside them. The snail slithers ever closer. Maybe one day the war will be over and the snail and I can find peace as every single galaxy we explore slowly fades away into the distance. There is only one constant in both of our lives… inevitability. I can run, and run, and run, and run, and run for a seemingly endless amount of time. The snail can move ever so dedicated to its one goal. Hopefully we realize what we have done, and our war can finally end. The snail knows its only purpose in life will end if it kills me. I know my only purpose in life is to travel as far as I possibly can to achieve some sort of safety. No one I meet believes me until they die decades later and see I haven’t aged a single day since I made the decision to achieve eternal life. What will happen to me if I finally perish because of the snail’s resilience? What will happen to the snail. What have we done? Maybe one day our war will be over. Perhaps we could celebrate Christmas together. Or any other holiday. We both know that we have one purpose in our existences. Perhaps one day we can set our differences aside. But that day isn’t today. For now, I run further into the cosmos, and the snail inches ever closer.

After years of watching civilizations crumble and break, you sit at the end of a cliff, watching the last of the Earth crumble to the might of the sun. You remember it used to be the holiday known as "christmas" today. The day in which people gave presents to those who were dear to them. You remember all the fond memories you had with countless friends and family. Their names, just like their bodies, have crumbled and faded away with time. Everyone you had ever loved was gone with the winds of time. They gave you purpose to live the life you thought was turnless. In the corner of your eye, the snail had finally caught up to you. You decide to uphold the meaning of christmas. You give the snail it's christmas gift: it's purpose as you fade away with the rest of the Earth

Anyone here today? The night Lennon was assassinated I was 9 & listened to hardly anything but their music. It is a memory so fixed in my mind. My family were huge Beatles fans. We were huge Lennon fans. Here is my memory: As usual, my parents & sister & I were watching television in our living room while our oldest brother was listening to music on the radio. He heard the news & burst into the living room & told us. There was a quiet moment. Then my father asked again. It was clear this was to be taken serious. We all made our way down our hallway to his bedroom. He turned the volume up. We heard them speak the news. He was dead. Shot & killed. We were all shocked. Quiet but sad. Then I began weeping so hard as I realized the truth. My brother was sitting as the rest of the family stood. I ended up in his lap & he held me as I wept & sobbed. My parents slowly made their way out of the room as did my sister. John Lennon meant & means so very much to our family. We grew up listening to Beatles songs & loved the independent works of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison & Starr. But Lennon stood out for us. His desire for peace, his empathy for the suffering, his brilliance as an artist, his convicting honesty, his courage to speak out, his willingness to debate with objection & passion, his journey through self healing from trauma & his absolute transparency as human being has not only influenced my life deeply but many others of my parents generation & generations after. Say what you want of the man’s mistakes & differing views of the usual. Question his morality but also know his encouragement for all of us to question our mistakes, views & morality. Because he believed we could all be better people & make a better world. I believe he did. And I believe I can also. Do you?

I too remember that day. I was never much of a Beatles fan. But I did like McCartney and Wings. But as I sit here on Christmas Day just "watching the wheels go round and round", I recall a sense of loss and the feeling that one man can make a difference in us all. I believe you can, too. We all can. 🎶 'If we want it'🎵.....BE the change. Merry Christmas

Year: winter of 2124 It’s lightly snowing outside and the air just cold enough to see your breath. Having seen all my friends, loved ones, and the ones I’ve taken care of pass away, I’ve decided it’s time. I set my coffin underneath the evergreen tree and lie down to get prepared. The snail passing me by and I gently shut my eyes, happy to have experienced my life and ready to see the rest in the world to come.

For most of your years, you were trying to run away and enjoy an immortal life of the snail you thought he wanted to steal your perfect life. Only to realize that your life was meaningless because there was no death putting you in a cold pain the snail wanted to protect you from it by killing you. You just sit down and hold the snail, you feel pain again but you're actually enjoying it watching the sun explodes with the snail as your whole world burns into ashes. Now both of you found peace.

It's 13502 the wars finally over and you've grown tired of running, the snail is right behind you, you stop in your tracks realizing with one small touch it could all be over, no more suffering, endless sleep, you could be at peace, you slowly turn and start to walk to the snail with tears in your eyes, it's almost over, you bend down and stare at the creature who has haunted your dreams every night, the creature who hasn't allowed you to sleep, and smile, realizing all these years you've had a friend, and finally it's all over as you finally place your hand on the creature that's been with you for years.

Now alone trillions of years before I expected to be, I can only patiently wait for the snail, and wish that I had perished along side my loved ones

@@glorialowney200 allow me to inform you of the idea of the snail. Imagine you're immortal, but the only thing that can kill you is a snail thats always moving forward, always searching for you. Sounds easy, right? Immortality wouldn't be. You'd have to watch everyone you know and love pass away time and time again, relationships would become pointless, and you'd feel like you have no reason left to live after a certain point. Or, you could make infinite relationships, cherish and remember every one of them, and succumb to your fate of being immortal. Either way, if you think about it, once you're immortal literally nothing would be able to kill you. Not even the planet fading away. Hypothetically, some thousands or so years later you may just be an object floating around in space along with the snail. The snail in this defines our mortality, and how we can take things for granted. The song goes along with the snail/man theory because not only is it cheerful, it's also hauntingly sad and pessimistic. I wish you the greatest of holidays this year, and I hope I explained it for ya

It’s the year 4417, 400 years has past since the last time travel machine was used that caused ripples throughout the universe. As extinction draws to an end , you see a square shaped man at the end chrome colored cliff holding a spatula. As the snail approaches the man, the man turns arounds and locks eyes with the snail says “Gary… I think it’s time”. As the world around them around is exploding the snail murmurs one word “Meow”

As I stare into the last sunset remembering the good times and the bad times a sudden feeling of dread that turned quickly into acceptance i smile and look at the photo of my wife knowing she rests easy now and soon I can join her. I look at the snail and smile and say thank you for reminding me that through everything you were still here. As the sun sets I pick the snail up and he as well watches the sunset with me knowing soon I now will die I let him know that he was what kept me going for this long and that the time the snail and I had together was a good one I step up onto the ledge and close my eyes the snail finally kills me and I drop as the sun sets soon ill see my wife again

After being alive for thousands of years, I meet someone else who is also immortal, and they have a snail following them too. Infact, it turns out there is an entire group of people who are immortal and have their own snails chasing them. I join this group, and with the unlimited amount of time given, we all research, and develop technology over millions of years capable of travelling to different universes, and realities, and we create a device to track where our own personal snail is, that way we'll always know where it is and move. This group I found has become my new family. At some point, we may even develop technology to see what's in the afterlife, and how to navigate it. Existence is such a vibrant, colorful, infinite and diverse thing, and we have only begun to explore it. Life is good.

I lie, chained to the same rock for thousands of years as vultures feast upon me like usual, a never ending supply of food for them. This is what I get for teaching the secrets of immortality. Then I see an old familiar sight, the snail. Finally, I get to feel the sweet embrace of death after so long. And as suddenly as I saw it, it disappeared in the talons of a Vulture, flying far away, a lone tear rolls down my cheek
