Its a great resume to say you have sung with Yes and the Moody Blues. I have seen Jon with Yes several times and was not disappointed and this was very cool, good for Jon. And John.

My wife and I saw him in July in Nashua NH, it was a great show. Mostly us geezers but there was a smattering of younger folks. The Moody Blues were a big part of my life in the early 1970s.

THANK YOU JOHN for keeping the MOODY BLUES MUSIC ALIVE! It may sound just a bit "different" but the "sound" and "meaning" resonate as much today as it did so so many years ago. Will you be touring in the upper midwest of the USA soon? STAY HEALTHY!

This is the most classic rock song of all time it still standing strong after over 50 years. John Lodge and John Davis make a great. Unfortunately it sounds like a cover version of any song without Justin Hayward deeply emotional and heartfelt voice making you feel like you are part of his journey.

So well said. Jon Davison truly has a nice voice but Justin is so tied to this iconic song. Justin brings a very special touch and emotion that fits perfectly with the lyrics. Hard if not impossible to beat. Nonetheless, kudos to John Lodge and his band. Any Moody Blues song is always a win!

The fellow from Yes did okay with the main vocal and i would mind a listen live. I'd rather hear Justin sing it - just my opinion. The strings playing Ray's flute part was interesting and okay too. I'm old now and i saw the Moodies play so many time live. It's hard with Graeme and Ray gone may they RIP. i still love Justin's voice even at his age he still sounds great. Thank you Moodies for all your great music. Terrific band and songwriting ❤

John once said that when one of the Moodies wrote a song and shared it with the other members of the band, it ceased to be the writer’s personal property, but it then became a Moody Blues song. John was a Moody, Justin shared, no problem. Wasn’t a bad rendition either 😊

During the active years it was normal each member sang the songs they wrote themselfes, just a few exceptions. Justin still restricts to his own songs (except one Pinders, which by then Mike has aked him te sing it. I think it would fit John to have the same limitation, his own MB-music is really good enough. This version of Nights is "just a cover" , more comparable with f.i. the Go Now-band. If I would have the chance to join a Lodge-concert I would hope for Just a Singer, Isn't Life Strange, Gemini Dream, Words you say ...etc. And I wished that once the'd come together, just to record some Ray Thomas songs ...
@senamartinec73282 ай бұрын
@@jannijhof2083 I really appreciate your thoughtful and respectful comment regarding John’s inclusion of NIWS at his concerts and I do agree with you. John’s son in law Jon Davison has a lovely voice but Nights is an iconic song tied to Justin and his amazing, unique voice. John Lodge is an absolute legend in his own right and I hope he keeps performing for many years to come. His catalog of music is vast and wonderful and his current band is great. Some people have suggested that it’s a matter of respect to leave Justin’s songs for him to perform as he is still touring. You’re right, Justin does his own songs that he wrote while in the band or his solo work. Either way I love the Moody Blues and miss their concerts but thankfully John and Justin are still delivering stellar performances for us. I wish them all the best.

Okay look: this is going to sound harsh; however, it's well intentioned. Firstly- this was really interesting, to see this soundcheck/rehearsal, the equipment, the close up & real recording of what, even as a soundcheck, seemed to be the real deal. But nobody needs more praises here- it's not that constructive. Everything sounded amazing, except for one crucial element- the vocals. Not the singer, not missed notes... nothing like that. It's just the song is imprinted on the world with a more sonorous lyrical representation than is offered here- it's jarring to the consciousness, especially for those really familiar or fans of the Moody Blues. I'm trying to be somewhat gentle- as the singer/guitarist is obviously talented in both areas; however- should we not always strive to serve the song? The vocals come off thin & weak, & frankly- with the pining submissiveness of the lyrics- it's a treacherous precipice to take on, without falling into the crevasse of simp-dom. The long girly hair doesn't help the image- one could wager the fella has a brush he uses before bed each night- just like a school-girl. I know I sound insulting, but I'm honoring the masculinity, the manliness of the song. Notwithstanding, there's loads of girly-men who still love women & might long after them.... but let's not make this song a joke. So it's not personal- the guy is obviously brilliant- just not for this song, imo. Let's talk about a fix: Try double tracking him slightly. Something. Beef him up. I can't tell you he needs a haircut, but it doesn't serve the song- it looks weak & girly, with the thin pining vocals... So compensate or SOMETHING. Okay... you'll get away with it, with fans, for the most part... & I'm not looking for an imitation of Hayward. I'm just sayin'... with all the effort & wonderful embodiment of the song displayed... shore up this end. We're only as strong as our weakest point.

Here's a link to Nights in White Satin featuring Justin Hayward who is also exhibiting girly-man hair - so if you are going to be dreaming with wistful self-restraint about a man brushing his hair before bedtime like a schoolgirl then it may as well be to the song's original author kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5u5hJh3jqumabs

@@alfinpogform4774 No, doesn't compare. Context is king, & frankly- some people can pull it off- others, just can't. You're obviously concerned about hurting someone's feelings. Take honesty like a man. Dude looks prissy & sings whiny- it's really just that simple. It doesn't serve the masculine tenderness of the song- it's a mismatch, & it fails. Now, F off, kid.
