It's AUSGEZEICHNET that you're putting out these "single strokes" videos, sir! I have always wanted each of your videos to last twice as long as they do. This is a bit more to help satiate that craving! 🙂🙂🙂 Anyway, ironically, this guy is probably the biggest machine of all time. I find it funny that he feels this way.

Funny to hear this from robot man Longstreth :D I guess his perfect playing is due to intense practice and not studio magic so what he says doesn't really apply to himself in Origin but still, a bit ironic heh
@zb695 Жыл бұрын
Oh theres plenty of "human" moments in his playing all throughout his records with Origin. Informis and Antithesis for example are all very organic in that regard. Even on the newest album I remember a moment where the blasts audibly get pulled back into the grid just before becoming flammy - it's just a split second, but its there. It happened in the opener track within the first 1:30 minutes. He is a machine, he is precise as hell, but all while allowing his playing to retain that human touch. THAT is what sets him apart.

@@desperanto. Not the triggers discussion again :D I see what you mean though, I'd love to hear his heel-toe without triggers, it looks like he actually puts force into the rebound hits instead of the floppy shit we see most drummers do
@zb695 Жыл бұрын
Concerning the trigger debate; in the video ‚John Longstreth Master Class Live‘ by Mc Knight 822, right after the 01:16:00 mark he demonstrates acoustic doubles on the kicks. Dude ain’t tapping
@ChaosPootato Жыл бұрын
@@zb695 That's about what I expected, dude has calves the size of my head... There should be no debate about triggers, really, triggers on kicks are required past a certain speed and that's about all there is to it. Simplifies live situations too I suppose
@mattvdh Жыл бұрын
John would be flattered that you called his playing perfect, but no he is human and slips timing here and there, (nothing crazy) if you have a really precise ear for timing. Do I care? not at all, it makes it sound better that it's not perfect because he might come out of a fill and play more intense or faster during a certain part and it sounds more aggressive and moshy. I think John will be the first to admit that he isn't perfect. I saw Ken Bedene live and he slipped a few parts but it was no big deal, he jumped right back on time. Plus the sound of johns drums are very organic sounding aside from the kicks. His snare sound is always perfectly tuned and has a good amount of ring to it so you can hear the overtones. If you want to see an example of pure milli vanilli, go watch lorna shore or a few other bands.

As a fifty one year old metal fan that is exactly it... I never feel like i'm listening to a real band. It always It sounds like a program. Unfortunately the list of bands is endless that sound like that... The songs have no swing... Movement... Just sterile.

Testament is a perfect example. The Legacy is still their strongest album, because the energy is just there the whole time, even if the band isn't playing perfectly and the production isn't great. Their latest albums are all super clean but pretty soulless.
@psychotictactoe Жыл бұрын
Some drummers defy this analogy, Gene Hoglan, Sean Reinert, Spencer Prewett. Super technical but sound exactly the same live.

I both agree and disagree, with that perspective wouldn’t black metal be the truest form then? I like being able to hear every instrument and I like to see a almost inhuman level or tight. Iv definitely seen good band and it just sounded like complete noise, there is a level of production that makes it enjoyable

Preach, John! I wish more would speak out about this (Max Kolesne does). "Recordings" are not that - capturing a performance. Nope. Gridded, cut, paste, piecemeal construction of artifice, software audio product.
@bmw_m4255Ай бұрын
I know what he means. Computer recording and technology has taken the human feel out of performances. It allowed mediocre musicians to sound better and robbed great musicians of their swagger making them all sound the same

New deeds of flesh nucleus album is a prime example. Not only is the production plastic af but the songs are nothing like early deeds. its hard to believe the remaining members cant see how much better the trading pieces and inbreeding the anthropophagi stuff is and cant understand why
